Bad Guy Good Audio Rankings and stuff (under construction) (Part 1)

Hi @hawaiibadboy  I’m thinking of buying either the Yanyin Canon or the Mangird Tea Mk2. I believe you have listened to both - do you have a preference? I love single DDs (Mele, Olina, O2) for the timbre, so that’s pretty important to me. I also value the good staging, imaging, and sub-bass response in modded Olina. Many thanks :fist_right: :fist_left:

Does anyone know a good replacement for the filters in the T2 Plus? I lost one of them and the channel imbalance is annoying af (basically unusable)

Or maybe measurements for them WITHOUT the filter so i can correct it via eq

Have you looked at the heliki? DD with a ton of bass from the graph. Not sure if you are specifically looking at tribids though

I’m pretty content with the Olina and the S12 for timbre and on-the-go sets, so I’m looking for a mid-tier set for use at home that’s got good sub-bass, great mids, extended treble, (plus timbre and stage) and I feel like only multi driver sets can tick all those boxes. There’s only so much a DD can do, even if you spend hundreds. Don’t get me wrong, I’m sure the Dark Magician or IE600 is magical, but I doubt it can cover the whole FR like a tribrid. @nymz, @paulwasabii, @hawaiibadboy , @rattlingblanketwoman, @Tonytex_Teixeira , or whoever has heard the high end DDs can correct me if I’m wrong, though!

Hekili would fail you on timbre and stage, not an upgrade to sets you’re familiar with atm. It’s not bad, it does some things excellently, we’ve just talked enough that I feel this is worth saying to you, based on your tastes and experiences.

I havent heard any Penon IEM, so I cant help you with that.

No I mean this part:

DM can. But what you are looking to achieve, since you have olina and o2 as base, might not be cheap.

Tribids might be the way.

Have you considered Variations?

Yanyin Canon

If it were sent to influencers it would be much more popular than it is.
Great set. I just leave it in stock pin config

I think one thing to consider since we have talked about it in the past, the volume level. For me, I like the relaxed sets, EJ07M, RSV, dual damper Olina as I can turn them up but for longer listening sessions, I do like lower treble levels/no fatigue sets. If I was a lower volume listener, I may go for a set with higher treble levels so you do hear that treble extension at lower listening levels. HBB just posted on Ola, that was a set that sounds good at low volume levels but not as much when I tried to click the Vol + button. The one non-relaxed treble set that I would want on my desk, MEST. Of the sets I had a chance to listen to that really surprised me, MEST and Thieaudio Clair. Those two fall in the category of no matter how many reviews I read on them, still sounded better than described. I said the same on EJ07M too. RSV too.

I am trying these out at the moment and I had to regraph them various times to make sure I hadn’t f’d up the measurements. Now I see your measurements and realize I am not completely crazy lol.

While they are a little lean on the lower ranges, they don’t sound (to me) anywhere near as anemic as they look on the graph.

It’s not SSR
Not really neutral though as that implies no coloration which 100Hz roll is.
Lean.

HiFi is defined as faithful reproduction to original.
This set cannot do that with Rock, R&B, Jazz or anything with low freq.

So Hifi? No. So Audiophile …no
Vocal centric? (Female maybe)

That said.
After 02 and Hana 2021 Tanchjim should be creative like this because they cannot keep releasing 02 variants. This is creative.
Different strokes for different folks

This doesn’t look great.

I am curious about their FR though, closer to an Etymotic sound I hope. Pair arriving today (I think).

I was just going to point that out too. Looks dented…

That’s the one i could not get a tip on and fought it until i saw it was square shaped. I mighta done that with my hands but i don’t think so. It’s plastic like CCA CRA and I thought it would snap.
Maybe it bent.

If you are using foam tips, they will sound less lean. I just EQ’d but I know most of the initial impressions suggested foam tips
