Bad Guy Good Audio Rankings and stuff (under construction) (Part 1)

They are usually used as tweeters (LZ A7), but they also can do full spectrum (1More Earbuds).

If they are the regular type, they have a more “exotic” timbre. I’m not the biggest fan due to past experiences, but there’s good implementations. I’m very curious about that Planar + Piezo timbre, although I’m pretty sure I’d prefer full planar.

The open back system and the tuning has all my curiosity tho. Might be a way to fix S12/Timeless stage and imaging chops.

Covering the open back results in lost bass

It is written on the product box and on the website it is bone conduction type of implementation

I dislike piezo trebs.
None to be heard here. most calm treb of the S12/7Hz/HooK-X
Closing the back decreases bass
Covering open back headphones and IEM often increase bass
What that’s doing…I dunno.
Sounds damn good though

I was going to say the same thing. Doesn’t covering the open back of a headphone typically increase bass and reduce stage etc.? I’m very very interested in these and I hope to see some kind of comparison between the HOOK and the Timeless. If it’s any kind of upgrade, I might consider selling a few sets, including the timeless, to pick a pair up :face_with_monocle:

What may happen is that it is not closing but touching the housing that dampens the low frequencies more than it is designed (those frequencies are transfered via contact to your pinna/concha on purpose - that is the intention of BC). See if it is also the case while you just touch the housing with your fingers not necessarily closing the whole inlet

…and your take on the Serial for sure!

My Canon came and so far, I have to say I prefer the Serial. We all know how little “so far” counts for after less than a full day, or even a week, but for what it’s worth I’m preferring them by quite a bit. I’ve had the Canons set on 100 (bass boosted only) and 110.

Thank you for the review. I now got hyped  on Raptgo. Probably it will be my next planar set after the Timeless. I’m curious on sound comparison to another open-back planar IEMs like Audeze also fit comparison to Timeless or S12

Same as with earbuds then, blocking back vents will decrease the bass.

The Thor Mjölnir MK2 is a beauty.

Really like this look.

Interested in the Muse hifi power…another planar.
Looks fantastic (but BIG!).
Graph looks ok too…though obviously needs confirmation.

Interested in it also.

Fyi review…

TLDR, it’s a planar, it has bass, mids and treble.

This review doesn’t say anything

Typically yes.
When tuning Mele it was easy to see if the back plate was slightly ajar with even a tiny gap as the sub bass would be dropped.
Take the back plate off most IEM and the bass completely falls away all the way too 500Hz
Seeing it swing down on cover is uncommon

Meanwhile Penon order is about to be delivered today

Will compare with S12 and 7Hz likely not Muse unfortunately as I’m not waiting another week.
Muse is closed back and $200
7Hz and S12 are closed back. I hope the pretty shells house something worth rec’ing over the S12 and Timeless

Non Button => pass for me.

I need the volume AND the back/next buttons on my dac, cause I can’t stand having to reach my phone/tablet to do these things. Especially when listening in bed, in the dark.
