I argue that IF the time comes that you CAN go up in price, THAT is when you should start researching stuff, chances are that the stuff that is popular now, may or may not be competitive anymore in the future.

I am perfectly aware that I can not afford the latest Ferrari, nor will I ever be able to. It doesn’t stop me from wishing I could own one, and it certainly doesn’t stop me from desiring one. And no amount of research on the current or future models would placate my desire to own the current or future versions. I argue that you can dream now and possibly live that dream in the future, which is infinitely preferable to never dreaming at all. Once again, perchance to dream.

Get ready for the haters! As soon as I said I prefer the LM over the $220 EA1000 the daggers came out! And my ears must be shit. To them I say go ahead and do the spend keeps the companies in biz and leaves more stock to the music lovers.

They have different ear canals…music libraries??
On the same music the LM is probably the best 1DD I own and I got all the pricey ones.
I’d rather folks say “I hate that guy”

Let them cope.
LM is clearly better than Simgots $200 set. It must be a flex to pull in more fans.
Customers pay less and get more. Let folks throw darts

Clarity and detail? Yup.
My fave is Twilight by Softears (I use that most anyway). This has a better driver.
Or…the driver is being optimized by it’s implementation or/and tuning

Please do it! I’m much curious to know how much is the difference in sound quality (with that huge price difference).
Btw I don’t know if this guy is correct about the Simgot EA500LM driver material, but maybe deserve a read:
Beryllium pure and foil was talked about in same way.
I’ll definitely be comparing the LM and the Simgot and maybe Twiliight and IE600

As someone who listens to mainly rock / prog, I’ve found that your comments are usually very helpful for me in picking a good iem for my library.
@ToneDeafMonk I saw your comments and did think ‘here we go…’. After all, it’s personal taste, right?
It seems odd that pretty much everyone will easily say a great iem of 2-3 years ago is no longer that great compared to cheaper models today, but find it hard to accept that an iem that is 2x cheaper today can actually beat a similarly tuned iem from the same maker. Isn’t that what innovation is supposed to be about?

From what little I’ve seen so far (and having only heard the EA1000 myself), it sounds like it’s mostly down to tuning preferences. People have said that the driver quality of the EA500LM is better, but without DSP’ing and EQ’ing the two units to the same response and doing an A/B, it’s really hard to determine if this is true or not. The difference in enclosures also makes it hard to properly test just the drivers. The good news is that if someone prefers the EA500LM, then they are indeed getting a much better value for the money. The hype and presumed future successful sales of the EA500LM may also end up driving down costs on used (and presumably new as well) EA1000 units, which is also an overall win in my opinion.
