Bad Guy Good Audio Rankings and stuff (under construction) (Part 2)

I wouldn’t worry about going to this hipster marketing bullshit haven.

The speaker performances are awful. The tech is pre1950s and banking on looks and clueless DJs taken with rotary mixers & components costed out at margins that make audiophile manufacturers look reasonable. This felt throughout like preying on the mainstream vintage electronics nostalgia trend that has been playing out over the last few years - and the celeb non-audio influencer marketing hasn’t helped that sentiment.

They were contracted out to do a bespoke commission for a couple of venues I know - cost to performance was a joke - service was a joke - knowledge was a joke - timelines were a joke and absolutely no understanding of room treatment or how to design and set up a high performing system.

Yes, it has that vibe and considering his fashion background and celebrity connections it’s unsurprising he found a niche like that. I imagine gentrified soho and brooklyn has become awash with audio equipment/ music stores and all the price inflation that goes with it. Following my cinema experiences at IMAX I’ve become more interested in ‘big sound’ filling up ‘big spaces’ and his use of a 31.5" Sub-woofer had got me intrigued, especially learning it doesn’t move much.

Are you familiar with Oswald’s Mill Audio also? The founder is a “confident” evangelist for early 20th century speaker and amplifier technology and strongly wants to convince you sound peaked back then. I was curious about the vintage RCA Ubangi Cinema System he has.

Also here’s cool giant horn speaker. Big sound make prashv happy.

I probably need to stop watching all the fomo inducing videos on ‘high end’ speaker equipment. Those prices are breathtaking. At least on this occasion, fomo has been avoided once again :handshake:

Your bank account is crying from happiness though. Finally got a break from one of these hype trains :sob::joy::sob::joy:

What the guy above said.
Ima dog them in a video
I knew when Amber Pearl was such a limited run they would take the folks who paid $8000 fucking dollars for the best set they ever made with 15 drivers which combined to equal 30…like Cayin’s 30th anniversary that UM was going to kneecap those owners
It’s what they do
Tri annual milking
I can afford it but fuck you
Canpur did what you have been trying to do for 6 years
Better tuning
Better implementation of a BC
And again…fuck you.

That’s on me for just looking at the first graph I found.

The other graphs of the RGB look a lot more reasonable. Seeing these 4 graphs would make me hesitate to the get the 10th without a graph though.

Just to add @ToneDeafMonk is right, my statement was too generalized. I don’t really follow TSMR because the tuning on a lot of their IEMs are not for me but HALO and RGB look pretty damn good. I didnt know HALO existed and kind of blacked out RGB cause of the lights

Before I got to mid point of reading the promo I was pissed.
They had this on their plate while sponging Amber Pearl buyers.
They coulda priced at $7500 to protect a statement piece but they need every dollar
Scumbags.

No more UM for me.
Got to comments and 1st 2 folks are seeing it the same.
They have no sense
And Canpur Exists so yeah…
I finally woke up

What a shame…you were always such a proponent of UM’s sets…

There were happy times though…when Mest ruled the roost

Once cock of the walk…next a feather duster

Man, you know that you’ve done messed up if the Watercooler is calling bull on your pricing and practices.

Because I have not bought a big money set since Canpur i could pull triggr now
Easy peasy.

I got free stuff from them until I didn’t hype the FU SANG, they asked why my vid wasn’t more enthusiastic?

Um.
Cuz I don’t fucking like it?
I hype what I like whether I buy or get it free,
You don’t get a positive vid cuz you sent it no charge.

I let that go…it’s the hobby.
That Amber Pearl stuff and their new $8500 TOTL pricing??? They can ram that up their asses
Will never buy Unique Melody again

Lets go Canpur!! Lets go Subtonic!!

Hey @DaveB, so I went down to temple church and indeed they were truck exhaust size and bigger (spoilers ahead). The space is not gigantic and the organ sound more than filled the entire space. Incredible piece of art and engineering. I felt my eardrum relax as the sound stopped such was the pressure level and in the deepest notes, the pew gently vibrated against the back. It was a treat and now I’ll search for even larger organs in cathedrals. I’m not sure what I can do but if there is anything to help get yourself down there please feel free to reach out. Here’s a few pics and a video.

Difficult to capture the size off a picture but they had the big ones on display and you can hear the ones that are arranged behind.

@Toecutter If your profile pic is even remotely close to your likeness, they had one of you here

Built by the templar knights as their headquarters and situated in the area around the courts it was in the centre of the magna carta crisis, development of citizen rights, proto-bankers. It also has a connection to the signing of the declaration of independence. Super interesting history, I must have walked past it so many times without knowing its there.

With a connection to the foundation of modern liberty (don’t let anyone take it!) and being another friday, I think Vai’s Liberty seems right to see this overly long ( :bowing_man:) post out…have a good weekend

Thanks for doing the Lord’s work. I’m definitely going to check out Campur and Jupiter asap.

So much nonsense, cable meming, shifty practices in the hobby. Nobody has the courage to speak out. Even those with platforms often times speak safely. Keep spitting, I hope you never retire from the hobby.

Thanks so much for the offer.
I will eventually get to go I hope as my wife will eventually require full time care but no idea when that might be though she is quite well advanced sadly.
Quite an experience by the sound of things.
Glad it was worth the trip.

I’m familiar with the brand but never actually experienced so can’t pass too much judgement - save for the pricing… :eyes:

Don’t get me wrong - this stuff has a place just mostly in a rough and ready type of way not a arthouse/museum or plywood & plant DJ/audiophile bar setting…

Try get to Munich High End at some point if your based in London chap. It’s a visually amusing, financially humbling but overall pretty unique experience… :+1:

Yep as you can see I’ll go just about anywhere to hear music…sound…anything! so thanks for that suggestion, and as speakers are new to me and on my mind lately, I think the time has come to take the plunge on researching them (goodbye sleep). Cheers m’dears

well well, maybe this list I compiled is of interest to you then:

Abyss: Re-selling cheap cables for dozens of times more.

BGVP: Lied about the DN2 having a Beryllium DD when it was a PET driver.

Campfire Audio: Terrible QC with the Solaris and when people reacted negatively to that on Head-fi, their rep started locking threads. (Also used Bellsing drivers in it.)

DQSM: Made an account on Head-fi and wrote positive reviews and defended their products from negative ones.

Hidizs: Stealth revised MP145

Ksearphone: Bad QC, horrible CS, refusal to replace faulty products, “bait and switched” Bell-LBS for Bell-LBBs.

KZ: unsoldering the BAs doesn’t affect the sound, DQ6 having DDs that are glued shut, claiming their MST driver is an electrostatic driver, MST driver that is not audible, Tyvan Lam (CEO) trying to bribe HBB into destroying another company’s driver claims. CRA stealth revision. TRYING TO PAY REVIEWERS FOR REVIEWS (1000 usd offered to DMS).

KBEAR/CCZ: Re-releasing the same iem over and over and managing to placebo “reviewers”. Claimed the BElieve used a pure Beryllium driver, it is only coated. Plume using Bellsing not their own drivers. (Discontinued after DeltaFyre dissected it.)

IMR: CEO ran a scam called Trinity on kickstarter where customers never received their products and the money was used to fund/develope IMR.

Moondrop: Urged their fans in China to “attack” Dunu.

Seeaudio: Bravery limited edition being re-released in different color

Senfer: 150ohm earbud was claimed to use Beryllium driver, it does not.

Shuoer: Tape driver lie (MST, not Electrostatic). Changed the tuning of the EJ07M KL from the originally marketed tuning by HBB.

SIVGA: Censoring bad reviews

Soundcore: TRYING TO PAY REVIEWERS FOR REVIEWS (DMS).

Tanchjim: Stealth changed the Oxygen driver

TRN: multi-core cables not having all wires soldered, EMX driver lie

Urbanfun: As the YBF-ISS014 hype went up, the price did as well, lied about the price increase being needed to fix bad QC and it was RNG on whether you got the Beryllium coated DD or the “noble metal” version.

YinYoo: Stealth changing tuning/driver, bad qc, review tinkering. (banned on Head-fi)
