wow that engraving is a mic drop momentš¤£ always a good sign when you canāt find any faults right off the bat. Keen to hear how the deuce holds up for you after some more burn-in timeā¦
Me walking to my desk to listen to the Deuce and get a half hour of planning done:
Welp. I tried to remove the blood cable to take some photos (as I was going to do some shots for a review).
The left IEMās very tight so I figured Iād be a little bit firmer on trying to slowly pull. Aaaandā¦
Kinda sad. Itās cosmetic but can confirm that you should never try to remove a cable because it happened to me like someone else has reported.
Damn, bad hit, sorry to see that, brother. That sucker is on there, huh? Geez
ā¦is the male 2pin connector like a 0.78mm size and the female connector 0.75mm? This shouldnt happen that easilyā¦dont even remember this issue on KZ setsā¦
Edit: hereās a different cableās 2 pin for comparison sake.
Donāt think itās not 0.78 but the recessed design may just be really weak there with how thin it is? I tried going straight with taking it out, donāt think I wiggled, but I could be wrong. Itās cosmetic so itās not a super big deal in the long run but it does suck. Because I was literally taking it off so I could do some unboxing photos and video.
Thatās really sad. Iāll be interested how they follow up with you.
Youāre probably right Rikuā¦companies seem to mix up batches of sockets and pins
pin .078" +/- .002 (donāt know the tolerance) could mean a pin at .080"
socket at .075" +/- .002 could mean a socket at .073"
difference of .007"ā¦that might too much of an interference
only way to tell is with a
But what cracked the shellā¦obviously material fatigue from either the shell being too thin or not processed correctly
The āwallsā around that 2pin connector looks kinda thin/fragile. That and maybe the walls are too close and the fit will be extremely tight which can lead to a disasterā¦
I think thatās most likely the culprit. May just be too thin to keep weight down? Or design flaw? Not sure. Just hoping Iāll save someone else the headache. It doesnāt effect the sound at all but itās beenā¦ 24 hours haha.
Edit: weight down is dumb, I just realized as I typed it. But, yeah, I donātā¦ Know really. Definitely not qualified to speak on that part.
My worry with it being too thin
(referring to these walls)
is that with the connection being so tight, if you use too much force to pull it out, the walls are gonna be subjected to a lot of force and i fear it is easy to damage it that way. If the walls was a lot thicker, it wouldnt be a worry. So it might be a design flaw.
Interestingly the L and R male connectors are of different type (based on the shape and height) + based on pic those look actually slightly different in the diameter of the pins. That may be a perspective error though. Also it in itself should not cause the crack of the shell unless it caused you to wiggle around heavily due to the tight fit
Oh, sorry! Not trying to spread incorrect info, I grabbed a different cable there to show the connections are the same size as a different cable.
My empathy bro
My Gaea cracked ā¦the left channel on the Mest Mk2 took a crapā¦the nozzle on the EE EVO came loose and sockets on my Mangird Top are rattling and on and on and on
Thank God chi-fi is not in the satellite business
Leaning towards the design flaw side. The right IEM was perfect - not a lot of force needed to unplug. Really just this left side. Could also be a small smidge QC and the design flaw that has exacerbated it? Someone else posted their same issue but it was in their right IEM when they cable rolled.
Solution really is to never unplug. Ever. Leave that cable alone like itās Britney.
Could be that the tolerance with this design need to be tighter than the qc actually is.
Thatās sad man, feel for youā¦
Hopefully youāll find a way to attach the piece back for it to bother you less over time.
Definitely shouldnāt happen like this, and youāre not a rookie so probably took as much care as possible in terms of pull and any wiggle.
Agree with other opinions that itās likely a design flaw since itās not the first such report at this point.
Imo those walls surrounding the pins are likely too tall and thin, and molded in a way that fails to distribute the load towards the shell more.
I know there are a lot of people waiting for the Deuce to arrive. Hereās my experience to give you an idea on what to expect. FatFreq provided me with tracking information on October 4th. The package was in limbo until October 16th. The Deuce arrived today on October 24th. Give it about two weeks after you receive your tracking info to see any shipping progress.
I never bothered FatFreq throughout all their delays. I only reached out to add the 4.4mm cable which they quickly responded. When I inquired why the Deuce hasnāt had any shipping progress after 10 days, I didnāt get a response at all. If youāre considering buying the Deuce maybe look at retailers because FatFreq shipping isnāt the most proactive at this time. They must be overwhelmed.
Itās here and itās pretty good.
In my opinion, this is a perfectly valid reason to request a replacement. A chunk missing out of my favorite IEMs barely out of the box like that would stay under my skin for eternity, especially when the crack could spread sometime down the road when warranty is no longer an option.
Regardless, that sucks and Iām sorry to hear about your experience. I was considering trying one of my favorite cables with mine once it arrives. Now, Iām not sure I want to risk it.
