I blind bought the TSMR X as my first IEM!

I wrote about thw X vs Shock here

The X are fun, bassy and good separation, but I find the mids lacking body these days. I prefer punch, estrella, and shock over X.

That pad swap looks interesting! Which ones did you use? From my experience, those thicker, deeper pads really add some nice additional kick in the sub-bass due to the increased distance from the ear. Rest of the frequency response is another story, mostly dependent on material, but thatā€™s why we experiment.

If you havenā€™t tried the Ultrasone Signature X, I highly recommend doing so at some point, even with the (very legitimate) build quality concerns. My all-time favorite closed backs for roundhouse kick to the eardrum levels of bass but still good all-around sound. Those thick pads reminded me of them.

Thicker pads usually seals better, I believe that is the bigger factor for this.

Looks like Bass is back.
Fatfreq showed a market and shit on their own customers.
Any companies filling that void with good QC/ Branded drivers and no absolute abuse of customersā€¦is welcome.
Lets go team BASS!!!

Sorry to hear that, feel better soon.

We have had fans drying out our basement after the backup and steam cleaning. After 10 days of the fans running, our house is quiet. I actually went to the library to listen to the music Wed. evening for an hour or so, because the house was too noisy, and it was too cold outside to sit on the patio.

I am waiting on a collab set that wonā€™t be afraid to go mid-bass heavy. Need SLAM, heft, lower midrange presence. High Volume set.

2 really well tuned sets.

It is said the drivers hold them back.
Interesting as fuck
So yah saying the driver quality is what makes the tuningā€¦ great?
And custom/trust us bro drivers are ignored when itā€™s your friends or a company you wanna support?
Either tuning matters or drivers matter or waitā€¦itā€™s both
Why are we talking about no named drivers in 2025?

My badā€¦itā€™s folks who got approached and paid cash or goods to pump that shit onto the community.
Knowles and Sonion allow you to mention them if they are custom done by themā€¦itā€™s part of the deal.

Yeah, Iā€™m using pads from Modhouse for fit and seal. Stock pads too shallow. Love the sound stock but not comfort (stock)

A lot of hps include very shallow stock pads afaik. I think it is due to how much easier it is to tune them, since Im pretty sure deeper pads make the bass increase (and most hp users are allergic to bass). Otherwise I have no clue why so many have this issueā€¦

This has baffled me for years.
I played (dabbled in/was a hack) bass guitarist and Drummer and
the rhythm section getting good replay is kinda important.
Small clubs, ampitheaters, arenas and stadiums all had through the body low freq going on.
Full Orchestra??
That will pound you in the chest.
You play piano, so you know. If we are talking about mixing in a studioā€¦I can get it. Otherwiseā€¦planar set with a few dB low end and open back for outside ambient noise coming in (like real life)ā€¦and Iā€™m there. Modhouse and Hifiman are jams

The same curse seems to apply to the speaker world as wellā€¦

Looked up some recs and ā€œtop listsā€ and what not, and pretty much non of them mentioned any 2.1 sets and only 2.0 setups, even when asked about sub 200 usd range. IMO, at that price range a bookshelf speaker aint gonna do it with their lack of sub-bass, needs a separate sub-woofer (or mid-woofer technically) for that.

I found I like 12db of bass added to my OG hifiman anandas.

after exploring my tastes with IEMs it needed a serious lift to hit right in the low end
