If you happen to have the time (and feel up to it), would be interesting to hear what the Storm is like on that wireless setup.

It takes 75% of available volume (75 outta 100 steps) to reach 77dB @450Hz
Not ideal. It sounds great but I prefer more headroom

Thanks! Somewhat expected the wireless connection to impact the replay more than it does.

Haha! I knew you’d enjoy these since you liked the Ra. Omega’s basically Ra’s hi(gher)-res big brother :joy:

Is it just me, or does Illustrious’ graph look strangely like the OG Dark Magician’s…?

Yes, but the differences that are there make a greater impact than you think. Just the air spike around 15k prevents darkness in the OG DM.

Not to mention the intangible aspects of sound like stage width and 3D and dynamics.

Initial reviews and impressions of Illustrious don’t blow me away :grimacing:

Haha yea, i don’t think Illustrious will be able to replicate the OG Dark Magician, OG DM is really a unicorn. Real pity that MiM/Tigerism never managed to remake it ever again.

Would be interesting to hear why they didn’t manage to do so.

Really nice set, plenty of details and hits like a truck. BOOM BOOM :boom:

Lotta companies don’t have engineers/tuners. Empire Ears, CFA among others. I tried the 3DD set from CFA and the flex was crazy. I read that Jack Vang (formally Empire Ears) said to get the bass they wanted it had to have driver flex

That kinda dumb talk is why Empire is nearly dead

3 tant bandpass
No flex because of bass channel/vent
Fatfreq can deliver bass better than Empire ears ever did…they just can’t get it to you in any kinda reasonable timeframe :ghost:

BIG BOX

woah! Thats sick! Its gonna be a one-off piece i am assuming?

shame MiM/Tigerism couldn’t recreate it. Whether it was the exact driver, tuning, or just some unrepeatable synergy, it’s a true unicorn. Makes owning one feel all the more special though

Kendrick asked for several sets for the remainder of US tour and Europe. Ima get a ciem blacked out version/replica of his set. Just for a collector item and show in the vis for the Fir set

For a moment, I thought ‘that’s a big box for an IEM’ and then realised there’s still headphones out there as well :person_facepalming:

The engineering behind IEMs is always so cool. Headphones don’t fascinate me as much for some reason.
And then the shell cap designs are such a wonderful aspect, always exciting.
I wonder though who makes a decision to not include a nozzle lip for the eartips lol, engineers or designers. I can’t imagine it affecting the sound in any noticeable way.
But it is quite annoying.

Totally feel you on that; IEMs are such a fascinating blend of tech and art. The missing nozzle lip thing baffles me too haha…

The thing thats really irritating is supplying recessed 2pin cables on flush Iems especially of Kilobuck iems. Its inexcusable. I meam you put all this effort into designing fancy shells and innards and spout lyrically about the R&D then mismatch a cable.

You will probably love the upcoming Fulgrim if you like these. I can’t wrap my head around the MSRP of the Fulgrim but it’s a great set.

It’s a relative afterthought.
The color, design of the terminations are more focused on than
(Is this cable actually designed to be paired with what we designed)
I have worked with companies that work with premium brands and they ask bizarre questions/suggest dumb stuff.

This isn’t rocket Science, it’s sometimes more like art than anything objective, hence the clone drivers and the “sounds just as good”…that’s NOT the point. Related to the odd cable choices, it’s often related to money and a vision…to get that money
