It’s tough until we all use same tips. Me and Mark have same Bass but me jay and Paul all have diff treb on Meta. That is likely tips.
The variance on these 711 is very very wild.
This chart below shows how enormous the variance is

At the end of the day, I don’t compare different rigs for the graphs to be exact, but each of your graphs behave in consistent manners through most of the frequency.
Like the fact is at least none of you are graphing a V-shape response where it shouldn’t be. The specific deviations are all the things we’ve talked about, but the foundation is consistent. That’s key
While I feel that Listener has the personality of a damp rag, the work he’s put in on the coupler differences is invaluable and seems pretty underrated by much of the community.
There is sometimes odd treble on HBB’s squigs, for example cp74e, deep blue, volume S. These have insanely smooth linear treble past 10k, I’ve never seen graphs like these anywhere else.
I feel the descriptions of a reviewer are likely to be much more valuable forming an impression short of listening yourself vs the graphs. I hate to link to this forum but this post is full of information that details the challenges of measurement standards and their implementation over the decades. IEC 711 is over 40 years old. The post is well written and cites references.
Edit: I see what you mean on those sets. I had 2 mics and used both until one was clearly boosting treb. Not 100% sure if those particular sets were impacted
Yeah with this I think its more than just coupler diff, as its not just a gain difference, its a different shape entirely (bass shelf specifically).
I disagree with a lot of his takes (subjective) but his work is (objectively) very beneficial to the community so I appreciate him.
I’ve personally been fighting my coupler to at least read similar to other 711s and it just isn’t working. Went ahead and ordered another and I guess I’ll see. For sure its hard to get my brain into the mode of thinking that 711s are at best a rough approximation of the true FR and at worst so off it leads to tuning mistakes and wasting time.
Ah, I just assumed it was because it said ‘Me’ for the recipient They definitely need to respect and honour existing commitments over potential future ones. unfortunately, they’ll probably survive it like FF did…
I think Sterling Archer said it best: phrasing. That and a thank you for not having to pay anything, not even shipping of course.
This. I also pointed that out in the past. It’s Dutch yet not available at all over here.
I once did a Giveaway and I asked the person to wait , 'cause I was on a trip.
That dude , went to TAS ( retailer that organised the giveaway ). TAS explained that it will be dispatched when I get home. Then he started posting & bugging. All these for a delay of 3 days max.
I swore , I will not host giveaways from now on.
They got that new tilt too which is a total departure from what my eyes and brain have been reading for 10 years. Left side tilted up and whole freq going down usually highlighting anomoly past ear gain. I have to reset my brain
Just got the e-mail for the $49 coupon ($50-$1 reservation). Would have been helpful if they actually listed a price.
Is Penon taking over Linsoul? This feels like a very Penon thing to do if you ask me.
