Bad Guy Good Audio Reviews (A Million views?) Part 3/4

I really like it so far and i think because ive used R3pro before the software kind of make sense to me already. It sure isnt the seamlessness of something like the apple ecosystem and like above mentioned it has one of two extra clicks but what it does for 60$ im not even sure any 2000$ daps do :joy:

Anyone into headfi who doesn’t think they’re a total nerd is painfully mistaken

Tempotec has been around for a looooong time so nothing to worry about there. I also have not heard any shitty/scammy things they done and they are NOT on my list of shame. (rare AF)

…ok well maybe that needs to be changed? Any clues on if they are gonna add it or not? If not…I guess we got another one on the list…

No clues yet

I reached out regarding the advertised PEQ and EQ issues. They said that a firmware update should be released this month that should fix this. Guess we will find out. it’s my first dap. Trying to clear up my phone since I am out of storage and something this small for the gym or dog walks works better and it offered more potential features than the echo min

Consider going with the self hosted streaming method otherwise.

Going this route has always intrigued me. I just haven’t gone down the rabbit hole on it yet. Wife and kiddo have what they call ā€œthe cd bibleā€ and always wanted to put those on a self stream service since cd players and carrying all those CDs would be a hassle.

All you need is either an old pc, SBC (raspberry/orange pi), or mini pc (intel N100 based for example), then install linux on it and then docker, then run Navidrome as your music server. Then connect to it via clients on pc (feishin) and android (symphonium) (or see other compatible clients here: Navidrome Overview | Navidrome )

I have a BIG guide over here on the SBC method.

Taken from my Youtube comments section

ā€œComparing $500 IEM to $5000 ones is ridiculous. You need to do more than just SAY is sounds as goodā€

Nah…no, the onus is on you princess. You explain why something is worth 10x as much. Do that without sounding like you are on your knees giving that brand a blowjob.
Custom drivers
Split BA?
I have a retort for all of it and it’s called China

Buying this stuff because…well…I fucking CAN is me enjoying the hobby.
You saying it’s on another sonic level without elaborating is a copout.
Is this art or science??

Got a couple new pieces of gear for the first time in a while. Nipo A100 Dac/amp from Musicteck and ddhifi Surface. I am loving the Nipo A100. It’s the best overall portable device I’ve purchased. It nails the most important aspects - small size, battery life, sound, beautiful looks, finish that prevents fingerprints, and it’s magsafe. I’m really impressed. It’s perfect for portable use with my Fiio JM21. Still working out my thoughts on the Surface. Not blown away, but I’m enjoying the chill tuning and comfort.

Got one on the special early deal, rather impressed with what i got for £55. Very pocketable with the option of using the clip case for mobile use, loaded up my 380gb of alac files without issue and all album art/metadata appears to be showing.

Perfectly satisfied with the audio quality through my iem’s and sennheiser hd490’s, having previously owned the Tempotec V3 & R3 Gen 2 I am familiar with the Hiby software used so no issues there.

As a very small dongle dap it will have limitations compared to my current Hiby R6 Gen iii but that’s to be expected and from my limited use of the V1 I’m chuffed enough to keep it in circulation

Using it with a rotation of the following iem’s

I think the new V1 will force down prices for similarly capable gear, as soon as they have polished the firmware once or twice. Usually stream, but have a collection of music in all possible file formats, and the V1 plays all without problems. AirPlay also works with little hiccups😊

I’d bet real money the folks that make comments like you quoted are simply not in a position financially to purchase a $5000 IEM so they feel the need to knock it. And likely haven’t learned what the term net worth even means.

I’m 100% in a position to spend whatever the heck I want but…for me it still needs to meet my own internal sense of value; oh and add that it really doesn’t matter to me at all what others do as long as it doesn’t impinge on my ability to do whatever I want to do.

I appreciate you all, here.

Hey HBB,

Did you manage to take a pic of the monarch mk4 shell next to your Kiwi ears Punch colab?, I’m still considering trying the mk4 out but would like a comparison pic of shell size

Happy belated birthday! Was away to attend CanJam London and therefore off the grid.

No I apologize. That set is gone now. I have a custom red cap set coming.
I did line em up for pics but it was low light. The MKIV is a lot bigger.
On the good side…i found an early version of the Punch I didn’t know I had so it was a win. Sorry for not getting that pic
