True, forgot about the horror games etc. It’s apparently a group of 1100 women who feel they need to tell the rest of the world what they can and cannot do… I do feel that will sort itself out because the pushback is growing and at the end of the day, both Visa and MC will choose business over everything else (hopefully). It’s like you said, 1984 is a warning and not a manual.

It’s kinda crazy that using a weed wacker in Summer is as taxing as sparring in Summer. Probably not a lot of fat landscaping laborers. Fat company owners maybe but not the workers :joy:

Alot of folk that were in the same Chiro group (somewhat similar to scouts) as me ended up as landscapers or tree surgeons. One of them in particular was ridiculously strong. He was already 2,06m (abt 6,8ft) and didn’t look particulary bulky, but man was he strong. In one of our games that involves trying to stop someone from crossing a field, he always won. Even with 2 guys on each leg, one on each arm, a guy in front and one on his back… he still kept going.
He later went on to become the Benelux lumberjack champion for several years and even placed high in the EU championships.
For some reason nobody ever tried to pick a fight with us whenever he was with us when we went out drinking.

edit
It’s been a few years since I last spoke to him. Looks like he placed 10th in the World Championship last year. (He’s 45 or 46 years old now iirc)

Promo from the 2018 Benelux championships where he ended up losing.

1st thought,
Those look like beautiful grave plots.
Very cool looking.
Victorian Garden?

No but the apple trees I prune there are circa 100 years old I’d guess. The big Yew teardrops are are about 30 years old. I planted 200 Yew whips to create the bed boarders about 5 years ago and 40 lavenders… a total pleasure looking after this garden…blessed I am in my work :peace_symbol::pray:

It looks beautiful.
And landscaping is an honest days work.
I don’t think a lot of folks on Youtube know what an honest days work actually means.
Went through a lot of hazing at the job site in Hawaii cuz I’m Haole.
The heat of a thousand stares and smirks forged my steel. I wish I could put Kai through that without alienating him or getting arrested.
I hope he has a nasty tempered wrestling coach

Couldn’t find a good gif just lazy suggestions

I think a lot of people in general don’t know what honest days work means nowadays. Over here, the younger generations feel they’re entitled to everything without having worked a day in their lives. They criticise the older generations for ‘hogging up’ everything (i’m not kidding). In addition, they want to work preferably three days a week (without a pay cut of course), go on vacations at least two times a year and want to have a ‘click’ with their boss… When I was a kid I worked during the summer, even in greenhouses though I have a respiratory condition (not to pat myself on the back or anything, saying ‘no’ just didn’t come to mind). If that mentality doesn’t change things will go down the drain over here real fast.

I think its more like nowadays live gets more/too comfortable. The younger ppl nowadays just want to earn quick by doing the least minimum effort. Which ofc is nice and possible but usually you would have to give up your integrity or morality to a certain extent. Imo a nice balance between the oldheads and the younguns would be nice. The world doesnt always have to be on the other extreme of a spectrum.

Thins have gone down fast already. Just see how many kids got swayed by those “courses” trying to get rich fast without knowing the consequences. Also less and less people are interested in going to university, especially in engineering.

I actually enjoy folks poppin out. If you put in the work…talk your shit.
Only folks who get offended are the pasty faced folks who never worked a back breaking day in their life.
I couldn’t give any less fucks for what that crowd thinks.

It should definitely not be on one of the extremes. And there are definitely those who want to give up integrity or morality. I can only speak for my neck of the woods but over here it is like that to a large extent. Plus the get rich quick courses (I get an add for one every other YouTube vid where someone tells me to trade on a funded account and explains what a share is in the most talking down way possible) and kids wanting to become ‘influencers’. As someone who worked in higher education for the better part of his working life I saw how parents were pushing their kids to go to university instead of learning a trade because that was seen as being of lesser value (and a decline in interest in university engineering degrees as well). I always said: do something that you like but just don’t waste your potential (whatever that may be).

I sorta agree with your statement but…….Back when I started work/apprentice mechanic in 1989 I was earning enough to move into a house share here in Scotland with a few mates and had money left over after bills for gigs/pubs music etc.

Three years later when qualified I moved into my own house with front/back garden and still had enough cash from my wages to run a car, pubs, gigs, festivals, hifi etc

I was on a shit wage at the time yet could still afford to live on my own, in my own bungalow in my wee Scottish home town at only 21 years old.

Kids/young folk entering the world of work these days are fucked, totally royally fucked for housing costs, living costs, utility costs etc.

Great advice, kinda parallel to something I wish I had been told when I was younger, “If you can’t do what you love, learn to love what you do.” It feels like every generation since mine (and possibly before) have always been sold that they should chase their dream jobs exclusively when that’s both not possible for everyone and may end up even costing you the love of that dream that you thought that you wanted. We were absolutely berated into thinking that if you didn’t get a degree, you would never amount to anything or afford to live how you want when we now have almost even parity of unemployment between High School graduates and ones that attained at least a BA. I have worked a whole litany of different jobs and I’ve never been out of work more than three weeks at a time since I was 17 (now 40), and I had my first job at 15. I have always been of the pragmatic view that you should work to live, but take pride in what you do and you never have to be miserable doing it. Obviously if you have a bad fit your should look for employment elsewhere, but don’t write anything off because you think it isn’t for you or is beneath you until you try it IMO.

No arguing there. Like I said, I’m strictly referring to my own part of the world. Always taught my students not to make assumptions so won’t fall into that trap myself

Yep I love my work, the job keeps me fit, I’d call 100% of my clients friends plus I’m lucky enough that I never need to work for folk I didn’t like…Retirement would break/kill me, keeping active, creating and maintaining the things I’m best at :seedling::sunflower::tulip::deciduous_tree: plus I feel most at home with my hands in the soil

My parents had a small farm with sheep and egg laying hens when I was a child, with my father working a full job in a factory also. This ment that I learned to work as soon as I could. Simple things first of course but when I was nine and my brother was seven my parents went away one weekend, with us taking care of the farm😅. Only safety net was a note next to the phone with the number to the closest neighbor, and to my uncle and aunt that lived not to far away. Had someone done that today, they would have lost their kids I bet, but we had the best of times. Watched TV longer on the evenings than we were allowed to, and eating premade home cooked meals. Our uncle popped by a few times, but I can’t remember anyone having any objections about the situation at all.
