Beginner Looking First Pair of "Good" Headphones (Redo)

Hello everyone, as the title says I am a beginner. After watching some of Zreviews for entertainment I wanted to upgrade my crappy wireless gaming headset (logitech g930) for a better pair of headphones. I have a desktop mic (old blue yeti pro) so I don’t need an onboard mic, I’m just looking for a decent pair of headphones to get my head in the door. I don’t have an amp, but i do have an onkyo ht3800s home theater in the box that runs a 5.1 speaker set up for my desk so i thought i could sub my receiver as an amp (I’m probably wrong on that).
Finally I guess, My budget is 200, and they’ll mostly be used for music, movies and games, when i cant use my speakers. I’m just looking for a well rounded one. also I’m a filthy casual, i don’t have to hear every footstep but i’d like to hear some.

Some of the headphones that I have thought about are:

Sennheiser x Massdrop HD58x Jubilee

Hifiman x Massdrop HE4xx

Fostex T50/20RP

Beyerdynamic DT990 PRO(250ohm)

I’ve looked at a lot of reviews and a lot of it seems like preference matters, and to a beginner i don’t know exactly what I’m looking for. I can say that my gaming headsets 7.1 made music sound better, like it was on a stage in front of you, rather than right in your ear.
I feel like I’m just rambling. so I’ll end it there.

I will tell you that I really loved the 58x when I had them. Very great all-rounder and easy to drive. You can probably plug them straight into your PC/source until you feel like adding an amp/DAC in the future.
58x is an easy recommendation.

I totally agree. HD58x are a good starter headphone and a nice baseline to determine what you want in the future.

Sennheiser x Massdrop HD58x Jubilee

I think these are your choice. Any Sennheiser HD5++ & HD6++ models are a good all rounder pair to have.

Hifiman x Massdrop HE4xx

Heard good things about these, but I’m not too confident with the build quality.

Fostex T50/20RP

I have a love/hate relationship with the T50s. I think they are a bit niche, they are more specific to the hobby rather than just casual listening.

im on the 58x train as well… to get the most out of the others you would need an amp, not sure about the 990, but even so the 58x will be the better all rounder… really great headphones

id suggest an amp with these guys

Hope you enjoy them. For their price, they really are solid sounding headphones.

Sorry for the long wait, I’ve been enjoying the hd58x’s so much I forgot to come back and thank everyone for their recommendations. i’ve been able to hear more things in my music than before with how clear they are. again thank you guys for the recommendation.im now looking at getting either a dac/amp combo or a stack.
Down the rabbit hole we go.

Oh nice, glad you’re enjoying them… the 58x will see some benefit but not night and day like some other headphones so staying in that $100 amp and $100 dac range is recommended… plenty of great options to choose from there

Frankly, your initial post said you were just going to power them without a amp. If you said you were thinking about a amp back then, you may have gotten different opinions. I will agree with the last poster and say those particular Sennheisers won’t gain a lot from a amp. If you had gone with maybe a HD600, or one of the Beyerdynamics it would be a different story. The nice thing about the HD58X is they sound very good without any help. It’s possibly the best way to go and keep prices down.
