Best Budget Headphones around 200$?

audio is highly subjective if something is better than an another it’s not a quantifiable thing like benchmarkjss on a pc it’s about what you hear. whats better for someone might be different from what I find better. I like a wide soundstage with good imaging and other prefer something narrower. somepeople like shimerring highs with recenscced mids and bass most people don’t.
you have to find the headphone thats good for you htats why there are so many options . headphones are not just about sound it’s also about comfort and build quality. just because the 6xx is great and one of the best. it might not be the best for you. but if you tried you buddy’s 6xx and really like them then they might be the best for you. but if you feel it’s lacking anything maybe you can look elsewhere.

I don’t mean to hi-jack the thread but I’m in a similar boat, and about the Massdrop HD6XX and the HD58X Jubilee, isn’t the HD58X Jubilee supposed to be almost identical to the HD660S? If so, which ones do the HD6XX resemble?

I’ve heard great reviews of the HD58Xs, but not so much of the HD6XX, is it because of the price difference or is the HD6XX a clear step above it?

Check to see where your nearest high end audio store is located that will let you audition some headphones. You might get lucky and have one near by. Otherwise I think it’s unlikely you’ll pick your ideal pair on your first try since you don’t have much experience. But if you get something on Amazon, you will at least have the option to return it. Mass Drop on the other hand, does not allow returns.

that’s a very good point, I didn’t even consider that. but I don’t want to have to return anything because I don’t want my experience ruined by getting bad headphones

I have the 58X, I like them, but after a while of listening, it wasn’t quite what I wanted. I bought 2 other pairs to try out since then. Then settled on a open box Fidelio X2HR. I prefer the X2s over the 58x. The 58x is absolutely wonderful, nothing wrong with them, but my preference is the X2 for now.

My advice is to realize once you take the plunge, you may never stop. Today an 6XX, 2 weeks from now an Audeze or ZMF.

Not sure where you live, but if anyone is or will be near SoCal, the Schiitr (Schiit’s retail store) has their products and an assortment of headphones to try connected to surface tablets. You could potentially spend hours there. I <3 the ZMF Ori.

I can confirm, once you start it never stops. Started with a SHP9500 and now I’ve got a ZMF Ori/Omni

There’s also 32 ohms dt990s, apparently.

I think I’m willing to take the plunge into the audio world just because of my love of music. but I don’t wanna dive in with 500$ plus headphones, I wanna start at this sweet 200 dollar range that has a lot to offer. I’ve been looking around and I noticed the 1more Triple Driver Over Ears; has anyone used or heard of these? they have gotten amazing reviews in the YouTube realm

they are great and really good value

And… it’s all about personal preference. I love open-back headphones and neutrality and don’t want to use an amp, so 58Xs are in my list, and are the perfect choice. I know I won’t care for the tiny less-than-5db 100hz bump (hell, I have HD280 Pros…), and it will also be a “safety net” to make every non-perfect recording sound good (not enough kick, a tiny bit too much treble? Or even, your ears aren’t perfect? Then if you have 6XXs, you’re screwed).

6XXs have a bit more detail but apparently some people even prefer the 58Xs for the 100hz bump. IMHO, 58Xs for fun/audiophiles, 6XXs for studio.

thanks to everyone who has responded but I think I have made up my mind thanks to Zeos and the internet. the 1mores seem to be very good and sound great. they have a nice, slappy bass which is what I like and a decent soundstage with the independent tweeters. the only thing I’m worried about is that they look small, so idk if they’re “over ear” enough for me but to hell with it I’ll try it out. I might save the 58X or the 6XX for a later purchase, since eventually I still want to try open back headphones since I’ve never heard them. now all I need to do is make another thread for the best amp at 100$ lol

No need to. JDS Atom for 99$ beats everything, even beats THX 789 by 1db SNR.
(You obviously will not have all the details from the 350$ THX, but, impressive specs).

And the best part? It actually can be bought!

Just know, they aren’t over-ear, they are on-ear. They are small.

6xx is comparable to the HD650.

but apparently they’re comfy

Couldnt tell you on that. I have heard good things, but on-ears aren’t my thing.

how about the JDS Labs Atom, is it able to power stuff that requires a little more? it’s hard to believe that a 100$ amp can power a lot of headphones, but Im not that caught up with amps or DACs so i wouldn’t know

because I was looking into Fiio, the Schiit Fulla or the Magni 3

the atom is great and a definite step above the magni.
