I wouldn’t buy them from Drop itself. If you aren’t against used headphones there are tons of the he4xx on ebay for around $110
but everything just gets more confusing once I decide on a brand.
like are the 4XX better than the 400i?
and now I’m thinking about the 58X because I hear they’re pretty fun
I’ve never heard of the PM-3s so now I have to research those
I wish there was just a definite “good headphone” but everything is so subjective and confusing
the 400i has worse buid but some claim to sound better but the hinge breaks all the time. they are all definite great headphones you can get any and no one would be really mad you just have to find the one that suits your taste the most.
@RiceGuru
since you’re the most active rn
give me your one recommendation
for some nice open headphones, right off the top of your head
and those will be the ones I get
im putting my faith in you because I’m so indecisive
Massdrop sold 27 800 pairs of HD58Xs… look at the frequency response graph, basically perfect.
But most of all, look at the CSD. In english: Based on this graph, they’re the fastest headphones I’ve ever seen. Which means, a ton of detail.
And they’re reliable. Hifimans aren’t. At all.
I can’t do that for you but I have to agree with @LeDechaine the 58x are a great option. I use them myself. somewhat neutral with a punchy low end and smooth all around. they are great all rounder headphones.
there are a few others that you could go for like the fidelio x2’s which are more fun oriented, or the 880’s if you want more mid bass and nice splashy highs. unfortunatey Im as indesicive as you are which is why I own multiple sets of headphones and not just one.
You can also use EQ either on your source or something like a Schiit Loki mini to customize them to fit your taste perfectly
Also, look at the peak, from 6khz to 10khz. You know what’s there? “Esses”. Sibilance. “sssss”. And it’s boosted a bit, there, in the hifimans. Not in the 58Xs. If you can’t try before buying, I wouldn’t risk buying hifimans.
my issue with the 400i’s is the build quality its pretty bad for the price. the peaks in the highs dont even bother me as i personally enjoy 990’s with no issues
Yeah, we’re all different, but if he discovers he’s treble-sensitive with the hifimans, it will be the most expensive mistake of his life, lol.
lol yeah. its nt that im trebel insensitive I find the beyer treble that enjoyable. I find myself trebel sensitive with some things like shp 9500s an tin t2’s and t3’s
I think I’m a little treble sensitive but not that much? there’s a few songs that I can’t listen to on my Jaybird X3s because it’s just really shrill in my ears, but other songs that I know have a lot of treble don’t bother me if they have the bass that I can focus on if that makes sense
sounds like those are just the songs some songs no matter what your using will fuck with you in the trebles.but then again those are jaybirds and tend to be tuned more v shaped
well then I think I like the v shape because they have nice bass and mmm on some songs they’re just nice and punchy
so do the SHPs have nasty treble then? because then if they do I’ll take them off my list
its not nasty but its not clean. for the price it’s an excelent headphone but with your budget you can do much better. if you like a more v shaped frequency response the dt 880’s are pretty good not exactly v shaped but the highs are forward and so is the bass and it doesn’t lose too mush of the mids. but if you just want a good bass response without the more forward highs the fidelios are really good if you can find them for the price. and if you just want a great all rounder thats more detail focused than the x2’s with a bass response to satisfy most audiophiles the 58x is your boy.
what about the monoprice 1060s? they’re under 200 right now and I didn’t know
right now it’s in-between the 58x and the fidelios because beyerdynamic never really caught my eye other than the 770s so I mean I don’t really feel anything for the 880s
never persnally heard the 1060’s but people love them and seem to be a great choice for under $200. i dont really have any meaningful input on that . all y reccomendations here are on cans that i’ve heard or own
yeah I can respect that
I just can’t decide on one headphone and it’s so frustrating because I want whatever I choose to be good
the only thing I do know is that I don’t really want anything analytical because that doesn’t sound fun to listen to, I want fun, and I like bass
if you want fun open back go x2 if you want bass go planar or closed back. just because something is analytical doesnt mean they cant be fun i have a lot of fun with the 58x given the right music.
