Best headphones for Deftones?
Which headphones gave you the most intense, hypnotic experience?
The heavy, down-tuned riffs with that ethereal atmosphere, and the contrast between aggressive screams and dream-like vocals, especially on albums like White Pony, Diamond Eyes, Ohms, private music…
Hifiman Sundara since the treble peak is fun but refined. Beyerdynamic DT900 would be good if you don’t have an amplifier.
Between Sundara and DT900, which one would you say is more suitable for an immersive, emotionally engaging Deftones listening experience?
My priority is not analytical detail, but a sound that still feels grounded and physical — especially in guitars and vocals, rather than something too light or detached.
Which of the two would you personally choose for that kind of presentation?
Just to help folk with rec’s etc what’s your budget?
Around 500€ total, including a DAC/amp if needed.
I would absolutely NOT take the sundara for deftones (or any other rock/metal tracks), it is way too bright and lacks way too much bass.
That’s exactly the kind of contrast I’m trying to achieve — the physical impact of the downtuned riffs, but also the dreamy, atmospheric and almost hypnotic side of Deftones.
What headphones around this price range (500€ total) do you think actually deliver that combination of slam and immersive atmosphere the best?
I dont know Im not in the hp world that much, just not the Sundara (I have it) that is not a good match at all for this. You need something a lot bassier and especially mid-bass. I honestly take the Koss KPH30i over the Sundara for this.
For me, I would have to go with my favourites, the Focal Clear/Elex. They just do everything so well And they have great bass for an open back.
Also, honourable mention goes to the Senn HD660S2’s.
And my Deftones/Crosses playlist is about six hours long.
i think in headphones is hard to combune stage,airnes and texture.you need choose what you like more- feel every instrument like it plays in your head,feel texture. or feel like all instrument around you,like you are part of the song.
you need to listen noble focus apollo, they have dynamic and planar drivers, so you will get a lot of texture of instruments, and greate pulse,fast drivers, and it not bad at atmosphere.
also focal azurys is cool, they have brilliant sub-bass and sounds really airy, but drivers not really fast so you will not get a greate pulse.
in other hand for airnes you need to hear fiio ft7, its maybe a little expensive but this headphones is great example of brilliant stage and atmosphere.
also i can recommend a ath-50x, hifiman deva pro, Beyerdynamic DT 990, philips 9500.
you need hear these headphones in audio stores before buying anything.
