Best Value Dynamic Driver Headphone?

I recently sold my Elex mostly because I was worried I’d wake up to a broken driver. I still want a good open dynamic driver headphone in my small collection though.

I have a Denafrips Ares 2 dac and a Flux FA-12 amp on the way. What dynamic driver headphone would best compliment my chain and planar headphones?

My current headphones are
Koss KSC75
Nad HP50
Hifiman Ananda’s
Audeze LCD2C

I’m currently eyeing a HD600, DT880 600 Ohm and Ath r70x. Grado is also a possibility. I’d rather not get in to tube amps right now. I’m open to other headphones and budget is flexible. I’d like something durable and easy to maintain.

I mostly listen to pop, jpop and video game ost’s.

If you liked the elex then you should get the 6xx

I feel like the balanced topology is important in that amp’s build. I’d go with cans that can be easily run that way. This makes the wired Beyers tougher choice.

I agree with that in theory, but I’m handy with a soldering iron, so I can mod them to be balanced fairly easily.

I can highly recommend the DT880s but I wouldn’t know how much they’d differ with a planar. They respond very well to EQ if you feel like they’re bass light.

The way people describe them makes me think they’re the DD equivalent of the Ananda’s with less bass extension to be honest. Probably why I’m drawn to them.

The r70x can be hard to get a hold of. They get snapped up pretty quick. If you can find them (at retail), grab them. Just don’t pay $500+ for the privilege.
