I currently run my headphones through a GSX1000 for the DAC and an Objective 2 amp, I’m set on the DT770s but i’m not sure which one to get, i’ve seen a lot of mixed reviews, some people saying if you have the power then the 250ohm is better, some saying that the 80ohms has better bass and a better frequency response but then others saying the 250 ohms have better bass so im at a loss for which to choose?
Im buying the 770s because I want a nice closed back with great bass and I thought I may as well get something that can make use of the O2 amps power.
I do enjoy really loud boomy bass.
If you have the o2, I would go for the 250 ohm. The 250 ohm is more refined sounding than the 80 ohm
but is there truth to the 80ohm having better bass and frequency response?
I would appreciate the refined sound, but not at the cost of better bass and a “better” frequency response
(I say “better” in quotation marks because all I know is that its flatter, more neutral and less spiked than the 250ohm, but in saying that I dont know what frequency response is most enjoyable to me.)
So the 80 ohm can be peaky and harsh in the treble, and the 250 ohm is more detailed as well with controlling those peaks. The 80 ohm has boomier bass that is a bit more boosted and sloppy, where the bass on the 250 is more controlled but also still prominent. I would still suggest the 250 ohm as imo it has better technicalities along with a more enjoyable subbass to me at least
all I can say is if you like something more beats like in bass character the 80 ohm could be up you alley as some people including me can appreciate a slappy messy bass response but if you like something with bass that still hits hard and wontt muddy up your mids with also more controlled tamer treble the 250 ohm is the way to go
I’ve never tried beats but I have a pair of Sony WH1000XM3s and they have the best bass I’ve ever heard, albiet, I haven’t actually heard many headphones, I have the SHP9500 and X2HRs as well but that’s it.
I guess I enjoy subbass the most, I can appreciate a clearer bass response
If it has better subbass that’s essentially what I’m looking for so I think I might go for the 250ohms
Yeah the 250 ohms are more known for their subbass where the 80 ohm is more bass (not necessarily subbass)
I hated the 80 ohm version, the treble was really harsh and sibilant to my ears, and the bass sounded a little inaccurate. The 250 ohm version had much less sibilance and harshness in the treble, while still sounding very accurate and detailed, and the bass sounded more accurate on it as well, especially sub-bass. It also sounded way less hollow than the 80 ohm. I would take the 250 ohm over the 80 ohm any day.
I can’t speak to the 250 but I have the 80 and was disappointed with the bass considering the reputation for bass these have… so whichever you end up with if you’re feeling like I was then try the brainwavs xl pleather pads… I’m very happy with them now… crazy fun bass
I have the dt770 250 and the subbass on them is amazing. I think it stands out because the rest of the frequencies are tight, clean and detailed.
I ended up buying the 250ohms and I love them so far
I’m with you, don’t consider the bass that overwhelming but also don’t find the treble harsh either. I’m in my mid 50s and years of concerts have probably killed my ears to some extent.
Last year I purchased the 80ohm version and had a real doozy of a time with them. A bass “flutter” was present on busier multi-layered EDM tracks at relatively high volumes. Luckily I found a Reddit post that had the exact same issue and ended up trading in for the 250ohm. Just curious to know if anyone else here ran into that problem using the 80ohm cans.
Here’s the Reddit post for reference…
I didn’t find anything offensive about the highs either but that said I’ve only listened to some pretty chill hip hop and lofi and not very critically lol very enjoyable in my experience
Glad to hear! What do you think about the sound? How is comfort? They were very comfortable.
Im really enjoying them, they’re super comfortable even with my glasses which is a major plus, the clamp force is a bit much but that will loosen up.
I have to say they’re the cleanest sounding headphone I’ve used so far, even though the sub and bass is there and satisfying enough, it’s just made me realise how dirty the subbass and bass on my Sony WH1000XM3s are.
Which I still do quite enjoy for a lot of music, but most gaming scenarios definitely benefit from the cleaner sound and so do a lot of tracks.
I’m very surprised with how good the imaging is on these, I really didn’t expect it but I can pinpoint sounds better with these than I can with my SHP9500s our X2HRs, they both still have a better sound stage than the 770s but the imaging is just on point.
I’m having a bit of an issue with my pair as well but I don’t think it’s the headphones themselves since I went back to the audio store and tested them on a bunch of different equipment which they were fine on.
But whenever I use these with my GSX1000 and O2 amp, I get this inconsistent popping almost stutter noise, I’m starting to thing it’s electrical because I’ve tried using the O2 amp on battery power and AC power with the same issue, I’m gonna try using just the amp through a different input and see if it’s the DAC but it’s a bit annoying
When do these noises occur?
Sounds like that don’t sound like a headphone issue rather a source issue
