Perfect. Thanks so much for being so available to answer stuff.
do you mind me asking what setup or setups you have and with what headphones, and what music you tend to listen to with them? I donāt mean to be nosy, it just helps me understand your reasoning and sound preferences a little more. My thing is classical above all, lotās of chamber music, cello, viola da gamba, piano but also bright and powerful and fast opera, above all Mozart and Rossini.
good info. I guess its similar here in Italy.
I will talk music and sound gear all day!
My favorite music genre is all things rock. Iāll listen to just about any subgenre of rock and metal. My second favorite genre is probably classical/orchestral. I will also listen to some contemporary pop, hip-hop/rap, EDM, and jazz.
My gear list is scattered about this forum and your question reminds me I need to update my profile. However, of most interest to you right now is that for most of my listening I use an SMSL SU-8 dac. Itās signal is split between an Asgard 3 and a Darkvoice with Sylvania VT-231 pre tube and a Sylvania (forgive me I donāt recall model number at moment) power tube. Look up the Darkvoice tube rolling thread on this forum and youāll see my thoughts on those. For rock, metal, pop, hip-hop, and EDM I currenrly prefer the Asgard 3 driving a Drop-Hifiman Edition XX. For classical, orchestral soundtracks, jazz, and the occasional videogame I like the Darkvoice driving the DT880 600. So there you go. The DV+880 has my endorsement for classical music
Great! Thanks a lot! Iāll check out the DV tube rolling thread. youāve been extremely helpful. Iāll update on the developments. Should get the dt880 600 this week and the dv a little further on.
Yeahā¦ Waaaayyyyy overstating the power demand. @ZeosPantera and I actually agree these are excellent headphones but he still finds a way to make statements I just shake my head at. The 880 600 sounds pretty damn good on a liquid spark. They sound pretty decent on an Atom too. They really come alive with an Asgard 3. They are magic with a Darkvoice and good tubes. None of those are exotic, crazy powerful amps.
I might give my pair away. Have not had them long, but I think they are to neutral for my taste. Have not tried gaming with them yet though. But for music, they are not lively enough to me. They are great headphones, just not my cup of tea in tuning I think.
Great for gaming. For music, you need to run them on a tube amp. They sound really really good on tubes.
I find that they make great headphones for classical and other orchestral music and jazz. For rock and metal I still prefer an overall warmer sound. The 880 is still my gaming can.
On the right tubes, I enjoy them with classic rock and soul a lot. With some of my metal music, it is just too aggressive.
Have these coming in today from Amazon. Does anyone know if the black pair is different sound wise? Might pick up those as well cuz blackā¦
The black earpads supposedly are brighter than the gray. As far as the headphones and drivers are concerned, theyāre the same. Itās the black padsā¦ you may want to buy a set of the grey pads if you find them too bright.
Theyāre the same but black as apposed to silver
Just got these today but have yet to recieve my asgard 3. Tried them with my topping dx3 pro which actually sounds pretty good despite the modest ~65mW of power. Obviously not the perfect pairing so I will not comment too much on the sound yet but my god are these comfortable. Specially since I am used to heavy planars.
