šŸ”¶ Beyerdynamic DT880 600Ī©

it gets significantly hotā€¦ I wouldnā€™t recommend leaving in on when youre not using itā€¦ that said leaving it on for say 24 hrs is fine say to burn in tubes and wonā€™t be a fire hazard unless it comes into contact with something flammable eg. fabric

our mod here is MIAā€¦ im starting to get worried

I see. Letā€™s hope for the best, maybe heā€™s resting. Itā€™s Sunday anyway.

Donjklassen do you think you could answer any of the other questions I just posted?

this one?.. I have no experience with the 250 ohm personally but the overwhelming consensus here is the 600 ohm is the one to get

ok. I think Iā€™m decided on it on your response.
I was actually tilting more and more to the Sundara but then saw Metal571ā€™s review and the build and quality control looks awful. Maybe best to wait a couple years until they get their act together. For now Iā€™m really happy with the dt880 build, even the wire suits me perfectly.

Up until now the DarkVoice and the asgaard seem like the standout amps, but the asgaard is unreachable.

Any alternative good dt880 and amp pairings? Would the Bravo V2 be too weak, low quality? It powers the 250ā€™s well.

so the sundara had a silent revision recently and I think it may have improved qc and also sound (better bass presence and improved comfort) but you need something like the Asgard 3 to power it to potential imoā€¦ ive had mine for many months with no issues and its really an excellent headphone and class leading at its price

canā€™t say for certain but looking at the numbers I would say youā€™d be better of with the darkvoice or a little dot mk2 for the 600 ohmā€¦ I think getting one of those along with trading the 250 for the 600 would be a nice step up from what you have

Iā€™ll echo this. The tubes get hot enough to burn you if you just grab and hold on. Theyā€™re not so hot that a quick touch will still burn. The body of the amp gets quite warm, but not burn levels of hot.

You can also burn in a brand new pre tube (the small one) by pulling out the power tube, leaving the pre in, and leaving the DV powered on for however long it takes. This will keep the total heat to a noticeably lower level.

Itā€™s borderline. It might get loud enough but hard to say what it will sound like. Try it though. It sounds like there will be time between getting the 600 ohm cans and a new amp. So see what happens. Even if the Bravo has enough power though, I bet youā€™ll be pleasantly surprised by how well the Darkvoice makes the 880 600 sing.

From several sources Iā€™ve heard the A3 is a significant upgrade over the A2. @M0N has said elsewhere on this forum that the A3 was the product that got him to pay attention to Schiit again. That speaks volumes, IMO.

Great advice. I think thatā€™s clinched it for me - almost - the 60w the dark voice sucks out of the wall doesnā€™t risk a short circuit in the whole house or something like that?

No. My DV is on the same circuit as my PC (with an 850W PSU), my HT system, and even a chest freezer and Iā€™ve never popped the circuit.

US power is 120V and individual circuits at usually either 15 or 20A, even a 15A circuit will let you pull 1800W, so 60 isnā€™t going to hurt.
Iā€™d assume most other countries have comparable limits.

Perfect. Thanks so much for being so available to answer stuff.
do you mind me asking what setup or setups you have and with what headphones, and what music you tend to listen to with them? I donā€™t mean to be nosy, it just helps me understand your reasoning and sound preferences a little more. My thing is classical above all, lotā€™s of chamber music, cello, viola da gamba, piano but also bright and powerful and fast opera, above all Mozart and Rossini.

good info. I guess its similar here in Italy.

I will talk music and sound gear all day!

My favorite music genre is all things rock. Iā€™ll listen to just about any subgenre of rock and metal. My second favorite genre is probably classical/orchestral. I will also listen to some contemporary pop, hip-hop/rap, EDM, and jazz.

My gear list is scattered about this forum and your question reminds me I need to update my profile. However, of most interest to you right now is that for most of my listening I use an SMSL SU-8 dac. Itā€™s signal is split between an Asgard 3 and a Darkvoice with Sylvania VT-231 pre tube and a Sylvania (forgive me I donā€™t recall model number at moment) power tube. Look up the Darkvoice tube rolling thread on this forum and youā€™ll see my thoughts on those. For rock, metal, pop, hip-hop, and EDM I currenrly prefer the Asgard 3 driving a Drop-Hifiman Edition XX. For classical, orchestral soundtracks, jazz, and the occasional videogame I like the Darkvoice driving the DT880 600. So there you go. The DV+880 has my endorsement for classical music

Great! Thanks a lot! Iā€™ll check out the DV tube rolling thread. youā€™ve been extremely helpful. Iā€™ll update on the developments. Should get the dt880 600 this week and the dv a little further on.
