Apologies if this has been answered, but i couldn’t find it with the search tool.
If one were to use an Asgard 3 and Modius stack, which headphone would be better: the DT880 600ohm or the MMX-300?
Gaming would be immersive rather than competitive with these, I prefer warmer sound signature for my music, and I’d like plenty of clean base for my closed back (I have open back for airy, soundstage, and imaging needs). Is one better than the other or are they so different thath they don’t really compare? Appreciate the help!
If you want closed, that’s the mmx300, 770, 1770/x, or t5. 880 is semi open, and more oriented to competitive vs immersive, afaik.
If you like warm, though, not sure Beyer’s are the way to go…even with the Asgard/Mobius
You pretty much answered this then. MMX 300 all the way. dt 880 isn’t bassy at all very bass - lite and lacks body. Alternatives have been mentioned by @FiCurious though the one he forgot was the Tygr 300r as well though thse are open back. DT 880 is very neutral bright sounding while mmx300 is a closed back that sounds wide with a very warm signature to it with treble raised it’s more along the lines of the dt 770 or a V signature. If you want the more refined variation though I would point you to the 177x go as its still bassy but more of a Neutral U kind of signature and really nice. Tygr 300r though is probably the warmest signature I have heard from beyers
Ah right, I either miss remembered or misunderstood regarding the DT880s. For some reason I was thinking they were closed back.
I actually have a set of Tygrs on the way. I was hoping to have something similar in closed back for the aforementioned reasons, but got a little confused regarding the 880s. I am thinking the mmx300s will be there closest I’m looking for but wanted to check the 880s. Sounds like besides not being closed, they’re not quite the sound signature and key properties I’m lookng for. Think I’ll stick with the Tygrs and mmx300s. Appreciate the help.
As a side note, all of you on this forum are great. My dumb questions always get answered quick and respectfully. Thanks for helping a beginner that is a little uninformed at times!

does the modius and asgard stack well? or is one bigger than the other?
I don’t have mine yet but they stack really well. Same size of footprint, the Asgard is slightly thicker. Here are some photos of the stack from Schiits website. Can get them in silver or black

if you want something that can take advantage of the power definitely the dt 880 but the mmx300 is pretty good if you need a closed back
