šŸ”¶ Beyerdynamic TYGR 300 R

Not enough power then if your maxing volume to 100% and it sounds quiet. Will need a small amp/dac unit.

Do you have any recommendations on which cheap one I should get?

@Redix There is a new thread here about the ifi uno that you may want to check out.

Hello there everybody! I’m new to the forum even thought I’ve been reading it for years!

I’m starting to produce some music and I have a pair of Tygr300 and a buch of IEMs, I’m thinking of buying a new pair just for mixing, but I was wondering, how these compare to the 770pros? I know 770 are closed and the tygr are Openback but doing some research I heard that are tuned similar with the 770s having more bass. Are tygr good enough for mixing when a beginner? It is worth to expend another 150 for the 770s alone having the tygr? I’m thinking of ATH m50 or m40 too, but those are less confortable (I tried them). Thanks

Welcome to Hifiguides

Headphones aren’t my strong point tbh but I have owned a pair of OG 250ohm DT 770 pros which were a fun V shaped tuning but not something I’d consider for mixing and mastering. Hopefully other folk can chime in regarding/recommending sets that are good for mixing etc?

I’d say the Tygr are fine for starting out, but if you are still curious i’d stay clear from the ATH, if you want reference Sony MDR 7506 , DMS has a video all about them, tried and test and with the right pads fairly comfy.

BTW IEMs are also a viable option for mixing/producing depending on the IEM obviously

P.S quick other question what is your source? (are you using a DAC/AMP or straight from a computer?)

I have an e11k for desktop and a hiby fc3 for portable but I’m doing some research on audio interfaces since I studied audio back in 2011 but, aside from working as audio tech on live events for 2 years I chose another career path afterwards, so I’m very rusty, and everything changed so quickly in the last 10 years or so that I feel like there is too much info outhere that you can get lost very quickly. I have a pair of Denon ahd600 but it is clear they weren’t made for mixing porpuses and in terms of IEMs the only ones that I’d say I have that are more neutral tuned are the Hexas.

Dont sweat it while the good thing about audio gear is: good things are still good, ya sometimes something better but that doesnt mean that what used to be good is now bad

And most of the things that come out are consumer not - ā€œProsumerā€, meaning not a great mixing and mastering came out - while a lot of headphone put on the sticker of ā€œmixing and masteringā€ most of the time its BS. There are good ones coming out but the old stuff is still solid

Yeah I know good thigs will be always good, what I meant is that nowadays you can get lost with so many reviewers and prices lowered a lot the past 10+ years, too many products flooding the market aswell. And as you said, most of the labels or reviewers are full of bs, I dont believe most of them had tried ā€œ12 headphonesā€ and got to know well every single pair… Thing is I saw a lot of good input on DT770Pros on mixing and then I found that tygrs are tuned similar, I dont think my Tygrs are good enough for mixing, neither I bought them for that manner, but since I like beyers confort, If they are pretty similar I’d not spend money on 770s to get almost the same, I’d go for another ones, If that make sense.

Ya that makes sense, i was just saying you are already in ā€œgood enoughā€ territory, so your starting point is a lot better than large portion of folks. The Sony should work great for you overall, the integrated cable is a bit of a bummer. And pad swappign is highly recommended (mostly for comfort, sound wise they are fine)
