Budget IEM/Earbuds for handheld gaming

I have a bad case of analysis paralysis about choosing a new set of either earbuds or IEMs for portable gaming (3ds and a switch or steam deck, still deciding.)
I’ve owned a few audiophile headphones before and currently use the Audeze Maxwell, which I love, but its price and bulkyness really makes me hesitant to risk taking them in public, so id like to give a set of earbuds/iems a try.

My budget is under $40, but would like these to last 2 years at least.

Hard requirements:

No EQ needed, Cant set one on 3ds and if it is possible on switch/steam deck i think itd be too much trouble

Low power draw, half the time these will be used with a 3ds.

Reasonably durable, i’d like to use these at the gym or next to the pool.

Be able to shut out most noise, ill be using them in public.

Preferences:

I generally dislike warm sounding headphones but this would be the first time without a pad so I dont know.

I’ve enjoyed headphones with a good soundstage, but from what ive seen this really isnt an issue with indie titles/non fps games.

Options I’ve found so far, I’ve saved the TANCHIJIM Bunnys, Moondrop Chu 2s, and NICEHCk EB2S Pro. Im leaning towards IEMs for the fit and sound isolation but have seen a lot saying they generally suck for gaming.

Could I get guidance on what I really need to look for and some more reccomendations for what I should look for in this price range?

Might also want to check out Finals VR range…

I’d suggest the 7Hz x Crinacle Zero:2 which sells for around $25.
That set is a bit weirdly shaped and made from plastic.

So you could make small step up to the 7HZ G1 which sells for around $35. For those extra $10 you get a more ergonomical shell that is made from metal and a better wire is included.

I’ve got both, but tend to use the G1 more often when commuting on my bicycle or hiking. Mainly because of comfort for me. Otherwise its’s a toss-up between the two tbh.

Both are available with an inline mic for $2 or $3 extra.

The KZ Castor with all switches down are terrific for gaming. They’re really easy to power, and tuning switches to customize without EQ. I use them in Destiny 2 sometimes and really affordable. Stock cable and tips are fine, never thought about switching them.

These look pretty compelling, do you own the non-pro or pro version?

These look compelling as well, and I appreciate the experience with your commute and hiking, but another user commented about the KZ Castor, which while it has a plastic shell, it also has onboard tuning which I didnt think was available at this price.

What other differences am I overlooking between the two?

These I cant seem to find at any of the dealers websites, and amazon has them but for $70. Are they a call in only type of product or just difficult to get in stock?

Also are there more IEMs than earbuds generally? They seem to be recomended more.

Yep IEMs, you’ll need an IEM for your use scenario tbh…70 bucks for VR2000? that’s wild, I guess it’s that new import TAX shenanigans?..here in the UK

Got a wee deal on my set when they launched on Amazon UK :+1:
