The guy contacted me about a WTB post I made. He wants 1100 USD for them now. On a set which cost 370. How do I respond to this?

thats absolutely insane. I would put them on blast for that. I bought the one that went a little while ago and while I am not pleased with paying over MSRP on it but it was worth the price paid.

I will probably regret selling these… This is one of the legendary, original HifiMan HE-500 planars. This is a can I thought I’d never sell, but I must fund new kit… It kicks as good as advertised, and the vocal presentation is as good as everyone says it is. If you read the HE-500 thread on HeadFi, it’s full of people expounding why the HE-500 has no equal for vocal presentation, even in 2023. Endgame headphone for many. However, I am a drummer, so drum presentation is what I place most value in. These do drums brilliantly, but there’s other cans that do drums more to my taste. These image great, have an excellent stage and punch hard, which all translate to a jaw-dropping experience. Just try listing to Pink Floyd’s ‘Time’ on these, or Peter Gabriel’s ‘Sledgehammer’ to be stunned. And if you want to get kicked in the head, try Karnivool’s ‘Goliath’!
This can is all original, apart from the pads - they’re DCA Angled Lamb Skin pads. If you read how is best to experience the HE-500, it’s with these pads; particularly when it comes to bass. These are the only pads included. There is however the original cable (4 Pin XLR), along with a newer HQ OFC cable (4 Pin XLR). Comes with the original case and documentation. This has been well-looked after, always stored in the case.
Condition:
Great condition as you can see from the pictures. The case is dog-eared, and the original cable is showing it’s age, but the headphone and the newer cable are both in excellent condition, as you can see from the pictures. This headphone is in perfect working order and has been well looked after.
