Buying Advice for headset

Hello,

Just found out about this site recently, and so far I am loving it.
I am looking to upgrade from my current wireless headset. I own a Set of Hyper X Cloud Flight, and Plantronics Rig 800. ( I do not mind moving to a wired set at all. )
I mainly game and listen to some music too now an then.
The games I go for are mostly FPS.
Warzone, PUBG, DOOM Eternal, FC and so on and so forth.
Music oh boy… Korn, Metallica, Five Finger Death Punch, Pearl Jam, and on and on.

I currently do not own an external DAC or AMP.
I’'ve always used onboard audio and I’m looking to do an upgrade myself on my audio quality to hear those lovely footsteps coming from a mile away.

I considered buying the Sennheiser HD599 + Sound BlasterX G6 or the Sennheiser GSX 1000.
Budget wise I was looking to spend around 350 / 450€ .

Cheers everyone, and thank you so much !

Gotcha, well, are you going to prioritize gaming or music? Also do you need a mic or are you looking for just headphones?

You might want to check out this list:

Heya guys.

Must say this is one of the most active communities out there. a reply in such a short time! KUDOS!
@M0N
I will be prioritizing gaming.
Microphone will be required but I haven’t even started to look into the microphone options out there.
( there is no problem if the microphone is not part of the headphones ) I don’t mind getting a table mic.
@Antpage2
I’ll have a look at the link.
Thanks

Cheers.

Gotcha, well at your budget you can get really flexible and get a really nice desktop setup (assuming you are using pc of course). You could grab an interface like the focusrite scarlett solo and an amp like the magni 3+ (although it’s kinda sold out in the eu stores at the moment). For a headphone you could go with something like a dt880 600 ohm or perhaps a hifiman he400i to really get something that will help you spot footsteps and have very good spatial accuracy. For the desktop mic that will depend on your use case for it, your environment, and your voice type

@M0N

Just ordered myself the DT880 600ohm. they look awesome.
Found them for 169€ .
Since the magni3+ seems to be sold out in EU, would there be an alternative recommendation ?

Hmmm, going to guess that the liquid spark is not available as well. The jds atom is pretty solid, but that might be hard to get over there too. The topping a50 would be good as well

https://www.fiio.eu/product-category/fiio/desktop-amp-converter/
the k5 pro is available in fiio’s EU store

this list is pretty awful IMO
quite outdated as well especially with the cloud revolver on top.

This is a really respected website rice. And i thought that gaming headphones are different from music headphones. I dont know much about gaming headsets

That works too, that should be aval

respected or not their list isnt great . gaming cans and audiophile headphones arent very different a good gaming headphone depnds on 2 things tuning and presentation. a good gaming headphone needs to be able to image very well as to present footsteps and sounds around a player accurately, a wide soundstage to have some virtual spacial recreation a good mix of the 2 is the most important the second is sound signature you generally want something brighter to expose the most important sounds in a competitive game, footsteps footsteps are super fucking important if you cant hear them your at a extreme advantage in a video game. these are the reasons why we push dt 880s,990s,770, 58x’s to gamers that come here on a daily basis because they excel at these particular aspects. while the lcoud revolver s is good in a few respects build, comfort, It gets beat by the pc 37x in terms of raw gaming performance.
their number 2 is up their cause its cheap and honestly is a pretty good pick for the price but lacks what I think to beat it the cooler master mh 630 or 670.
for best wireless the hd 670 is better. but much more expensive
number 4 easliy beath by the pc 37x
number 5 easily beat by the cooler master mh 751/752
6. I dont have a problem with this one actually its fine
7. the audeze mobius has a ton of latency issues which is a problem soiund is great but with the introduction of the cloud orbit it makes this can pretty much not worth it
8. just get a mh 751
9 this should be higher on the list but in terms of gaming and build I pretty much agree its heavy and clunky and the low baterry life sucks on these.
10. this should be higher ont their top 10 list

Thank you everyone for your input.

for the Beyer DT880 600Ohm, I went for the following:

Regarding the DAC (FIIO K5 PRO ) , should I go for this one or wait a bit and go for the magni 3+ ?
I can connect them directly to my on board audio. ( though not ideal, I think it will do while the dac becomes available )
My board is powered by the following:
ROG SupremeFX 8-Channel High Definition Audio CODEC S1220A

  • Dual Headphone Amplifiers
  • Impedance sense for front and rear headphone outputs
  • Supports : Jack-detection, Multi-streaming, Front Panel Jack-retasking
  • High quality 120 dB SNR stereo playback output and 113 dB SNR recording input
  • Supports up to 32-Bit/192kHz playback *3
    Audio Feature :
  • SupremeFX Shielding™ Technology
  • Optical S/PDIF out port(s) at back panel

So both will work well, personally I would go for the magni 3+ if you can but I think the k5 pro might make more sense

I Will wait for the Magni 3+ most likely.
Is the Focusrite Scarlett required ?
I Was looking in Amazon for this but couldn’t find anything there. (no Magni 3+ nor the K5 Pro available on Amazon. ) unlucky me I guess. :frowning:

Not required but you would want something like this in the future if you wanted a mic. Also the focusrite seem to have a shortage at the moment

Thank you @M0N
I’ll make do with the DT 880’s for the time being. I Will look into getting the Magni3+ or the K5 Pro in a few weeks .

Big thanks to all of you all the way from Portugal ! your advice and expertise has been most valuable.

Stay safe out there. Cheers
