Hey all, I’m trying to learn before dropping hard cash. I have a surface pro tablet in hand and was wondering if i can actually use it with a dac and amp to stream my music in “hi-res” formats. What features does the tablet need to have for this to work or can this only be done via desktop or dedicated DAP or streamer?
Which DAC do you have? Does it have nice USB implementation?
I personally have a Surface Pro to a Schiit DAC with the upgraded USB

There are several potential units that can handle the USB input that i have in hand.
For portable i wanted to use FIio xduuo, for living room project or smsl units
Which surface pro is it just curious?

Ok, this is a desktop-40QK0L3, i7-766ou [email protected], 16gb ram, windows 10.
Does any of this mean anything? Or should i be looking for different info?
There are 2 slots on the side for peripherals of some sort.
Perfect, you can use whatever usb dac you would like

Pretty much surfaces run regular windows, so if it has a USB connection, it can probably run any DAC that has USB in.

Were you worried about jitter or noise or something?
Or just wondering if it works period?

I use apple products mostly and just got this thing. I had no idea if it would work or not since i cant use my current dacs with my ipad.
Do you know what the small peripheral thingy is for? What plugs in there? I understand now the big hole will take my usb wire, but i’m curious what type of connection the small one is too, please.
I think that’s a mini displayport connector but could be wrong

Ok, now it’s telling me it needs a driver for my XDUUO USB audio 2.0
Ugh, this is why I have tech guys at work and I use apple products for myself at home. me no good at this stuff.
I go on internet and look for this driver?
Thank you @M0N success despite myself. I am so used to iPad this thing is like a foreign object to me, LOL I keep trying to press a non-existent button and have no idea where anything is yet. I was NOT going to bother with it if it did not give me a proper portable option for the road. HA, now I’m gonna learn this thing and have full features on the road! Thank you guys!!!
I regularly use a Surface Pro 4 with an external USB dac with no issues outside of the occasional USB issues that affects any computer. I’ve even had the DACs connected to a USB hub because the Surface only has the one USB port. No issues. Enjoy your music.

Oh yeah! Now I can sit in my easy chair in my comfy living room or a hotel and have better quality music than i did before.
I needed this, damned Apple and their NON-DAC playing ability, WTF, why not offer a stupid peripheral port on the portable stuff?
