I have finally decided on the pair of cans that I want to buy for my replacement Razor Kraken “7.1”
for some time, I have been fixated on acquiring good quality Stereo. Now, a good chunk of my time I will use them for is while I’m at my PC playing FPS games and the like.
the requirements where; detachable cable, preferably not preparatory & excellent passional sound or sound stage as I think it’s called.
After some long time, I decided that I will settle on the Dt 1990 Pro’s
As I’ve chosen to pick a set of cans that are above me initial price bracket, I’m a tad short for an amp. Therefore, my question is; Can onboard sound cards drive said headphone?
My current mobo boosts it can support up to 600 Ohm headphones. - But does that equate to supplying the required power? DT 1990 being 250 Omhs
I’m a radio technician by trade and my ambition has always been to actually make the Amp. i will either make one or buy one soon. But fate has forced my hand as my current Headset is dead. And the 1990s are in the basket. ….
What motherboard is it? It most likely can power the 1990 to decent volume, but it might not sound the best (compared to using it on a proper dedicated amp)
You should be just fine for the time being, I don’t really foresee any issues, in the future you can get more performance by adding a higher quality amp and dac down the line, but for now you should be fine
DT1990 basically is a special pair, because of Tesla drivers. Despite even having 250 ohms it can be easily powered out of the phone, although you’ll not get full potential out of it that’s for sure. I’d say buy it for now and then you’ll get some budget goodies for it.
so unfortunately my motherboard is either damaged or some odd driver issue i cant get to the bottom of…
its odd, there is a massive channel imbalance. In the sound application, i can test the L and R channels and if I have the windows “Mixer” tab open you can see that one gets full powers as the little green bar goes to over 100% while the other is only achieving 50%. with windows volume at 100& I then offset the balance by adjusting the left channel to ~61% to try try make mono signals sound balanced.
So now I’m now in the market for an DAC/HP Amp combo.
As i alluded to before. I would like to DIY an amp latter this year. (eye on the WHAMMY)
So could anyone recommend an DAC for me that i could possibly use for such an amp latter.
I was originally thinking of the FiiO K3, but it has no analogue out puts. Bluetooth would also be a bonus encase i wanna take it camping.
I’m initially thinking;
Topping D10 Paired with Undecided,
Topping MX3,
EiiO K3 -
In my time of need i really want a quick win and want budget no more then £150 but would prefer under £100.
I under stand that i will need to upgrade at a latter stage to really my the DT1990s sounds their best.
Many thanks for reading this and i look forward to your reply’s.
Just to check, do you have a phone or a laptop to try the 1990 off of to make sure it isn’t the headphones?
I would say the d10 or e30 would be sweet for a dac only and pair with an amp later on. The fiio k5 pro has a pretty good amp and decent dac in there too
