Can the Zen DAC power the Fostex T60RP?
Very easily, without issue, and with plenty of power in reserve.
From the balanced output, yes.
Unbalanced… yes, but not to a high enough volume in my experience. People say otherwise, but it wasn’t enough for my modded set with certain songs. Power adapter don’t make a difference.
My Xduo Basic does well, tho. Around the same price, more power and cleaner DAC. I A/B tested between the two and liked the Basic far more. But, I’d still say it would be nice to have more power.
I bought the Zen DAC v1 for my other half, and gave her my original Mr Speakers Mad Dog’s (modded Fostex T50’s) to go along with it. Running via the unbalanced output, the Zen DAC powers these cans quite well, with and without the “Bass” button.
With that being said, neither of us listen at very high levels, so most likely not even stressing the amp section at all.
probably, but all fostex trp series headphones sound better on more powerful amps.
I should try them on my A90. No shortage of power there.
