Canuck Audioholics Anonymous CAA Reviews & Fun Banter

I tried liking that one as few times but the bass driver is too soft for me. Hisenior makes good BA IEM not hybrids for me.

Exacly, the timbre and bass of the dynaquattro is one of a kind. So I’ll listen to the Oriveti, I thought for a moment about the new Tea Pro or Oracle, I would like to have details and beautiful vocals but keep the treble smooth.

some IEMs just hit with way too much up top, and if it’s overwhelming, no amount of technical prowess can make it enjoyable. At least the Dynaquattro seems to be working out well

This is exactly what I didn’t like about Supermix 4. At the beginning, wow - how much information and then this strange and unnatural timbre, dry and thin at the top. I don’t know, apart from Oriveti - maybe the new EPZ E50? @ToneDeafMonk I watched Your review and I’m just wondering if it’s not too bright if I consider Binary DQ to be a natural and appropriate sound.

Supermix 4 has that horrible PZT driver that’s what makes it sound very off. P50 was definitely better i like the micro planar. Volume S is something I pick up more or the OG ThieAudio Oracle that I think you can still buy.

Szalayi is a great set did you listen to it yet?
Only judging by your other reviews I imagine you“d like Sza quite a bit

I also think it“s one of the most beautiful sets :blue_heart:
If only the fit wouldn“t be that odd

how would you compare Volume S to Oracle in terms of tuning and technicalities?

The SZA is very good , have to be in the mood for bass but as a lower volume chill set it’s excellent :ok_hand:

The Vol S has the Oracle beat for both i prefer the more mid bass and elevated energy up top

True! But for being a bassy set i found it to be very open and spacious sounding.

New videos for playing catch up

I’ve been comparing the Dunu da Vinci and Aful P7. For my sensibilities, the Dunu beats the P7. I like the control of the bass in the P7 but there’s something in the mid-treble that grates much more often vs the da Vinci. The da Vinci does occasionally need a touch of EQ to get the bass under control but it’s very mix dependent.

Volume S arrives tomorrow  High hopes based on all yous feedback so far.

Oh, the Supermix 4 didn’t last but a couple days. It just sounded wrong to me.

Some people heard the mids and upper mids on the DaVinki unnatural, I still think it was well priced for the performance.

Was a decent Colaberation.

We all process audio information differently for sure.

Nice, sounds like the Dunu is really winning you over! The mid-treble can definitely be hit or miss on some IEMs, so I get where you’re coming from. Supermix 4 didn’t last long, huh? That’s a bummer. Now that Volume S is on the way, what’s your top feature you’re hoping will stand out most?

I hoping the Volume S tightens up the bass just a tad and I could stand it to be a touch more airy than the da Vinci. Really splitting hairs though and EQ/MSEB will easily nudge it in the direction I like for albums/mixes that lean out of my lane. The da Vinci balanced with Spinfit W1 large don’t ā€˜require’ any EQ for me otherwise.

I’ve tried 19 different iem sets, with the Vol S and BGVP DMA yet to go, in the past month to reacquaint my ear to the current generation. There really is something out there for everyone and I’m very impressed with the quality of reproduction of the current gen iems. It’s a bit like picking stocks in the late 90s-early 2000s. Hard to go wrong.

In addition, I’ve upgraded from the Hiby R4 to the R6 III 2025 (Cirrus Logic 4x CS43198) . It’s a keeper. SQ is more refined but gives up nothing vs the R4 but the R4 is an amazing value at the price point. The R6 is also a much nicer physical handling experience for me. Is it worth $180 more, on the surface no but these little details easily make it worth it to me.

Battery life is really not a concern for my use case and I don’t care if it gets a touch warm. Feels good in the winter  It’s very much on the warm side tonally as well. A/AB switchable is a bonus though A has the clear advantage to my auditory system. I have to discount the opinions of those that don’t hear the differences between different dac/amp implementations and even low pass filters as I most decidedly do. That said I have no interest or desire to convince anyone of anything.

I must say I enjoy this regular crowd here more than the litany of other audio and various hobby forums out on the inter webs.

Well done folks (to be inclusive of a few women out there)

I am about to drop my Hiby R6iii 2025 video.

Comparison to Shanling M1 Plus, DX180, DC elite.

My advice after hearing these sources is that the R6 is too laid back on the notes too soft, not enough attack on the top end and mids.

Hiby went the mellowed down route vs the normally mids forward sound from thier past players , exceptions including the R8ii.

If you decide to change sources for a more resolving one, my advice would be to look to the DX180 or better yet if your into dongles go Nunchaku and if possible the DC Elite.

Given my hearing damage I find the attack on the top end and mids to feel like a mini jack hammer to side of my head mostly on the right side…it’s known as hyperacusis and wouldn’t wish it on anyone.

I very much enjoy the ā€˜softness’ / lack of dynamics in full size planars fed with tubes.

I haven’t heard the P7 yet, but I didn’t care for the DaVinci. The sub-bass was too uncontrolled. Every song sounded like there was a background hum, especially on bassy tracks, because of the loose sub-bass.

At the risk of being pelted with rocks and garbage, I like the AFUL Explorer better than the DaVinci among chill ā€œmeta-tunedā€ sets. Nearly $200 cheaper, too.

Disclaimer: I’m a mid-bass devotee, so please take that into context.
