Chomebook and Hi Res?

I am using an HP chromebook and am thinking of adding Qobuz. They do have an android app, but I’ve seen some comments about some issues with it. So Question: Can I use 24/96 etc with chromebook without the c.book limiting it? Or should I add a dac, which been considering anyway? Thanks

well Tim…you’re the one on the Chromebook, so fire up the Play store and check?

as for playback, you will have to go into your audio settings and see what the playback is currently configured as. you likely can go even higher than 96 / 24.

and you will always benefit from having a DAC and amp. they’re usually not necessary to start, but if you can budget for them, then yes, absolutely get them.

what headphones do you have now and what can you budget for a DAC and amp currently?

Thanks…have an atom and new Sundaras so ready to move up a bit!

awesome! the Atom is a great amp. a good DAC would be the Topping D10, currently on sale at Drop.com for $77…or their newer E30, if you have the funds.

I do, and have been looking hard at the e30 comments. :grinning:

If you find a way to change bitrates on your Chromebook let me know because I haven’t found a setting for it anywhere within chrome OS settings.

Yeah, I am tech deficient so…cant seem to find what rate is on this HP book and if qobuz will stay hi res or revert, even using the Q android app. May just get the e30 and try it. Prob will try Q both ways, but havnt subscribed yet.

okay…quick Google says that the playback sample rate cannot be adjusted for Chrome OS. however once you have a DAC connected, there may be workarounds within your playback app’s settings.

So sounds like an external dac is the way to go?

And Qs android app should do it? Appreciate the help.

it’s not a guarantee…but yes. a DAC and amp are always better (well, with the exception of really cheap one’s). they’re just not always necessary…but definitely always better. almost every headphone comes to life when put on a decent amp.

as for whether their app has the feature…I don’t know. I read it’s possible. you’d have to email them and ask, or maybe post this query on a dedicated Chrome OS forum. if you do that, please share the responses. it will help HFG as a forum collectively

that’s an idea. will try a chrome forum. I know music well, but tech not so much.
