Any and all of the ZMFs are a great choice, especially if you’re in it to win it with a lifetime driver warranty.
I’m sure I’ll end up buying lots of other headphones, but if I had a gun to my head to stop today I’d likely be content because of all the ZMFs I own. Keep in mind, my preference is for a tube amp, so I am probably a little biased towards dynamic drivers over planars, but I’d be pretty happy if I was stuck with just an Eikon, Aeolus, Verite, and Auteur since they’d cover a lot of my tastes. If I had to narrow it down to one, it’d be a Sophie’s Choice between the Eikon and Auteur.
Side note: ZMF’s upgraded cables are pretty insane. Because I own 4 ZMFs, an Empyrean, and a LCD XC, I decided to go a little balls out and went for the Verite 4 strand silver cable w/ an XLR connector and it’s the best cable I’ve ever used. I also got the pentacon 4.4 Michanikos cable to use with my M15, and it’s probably the better value for quality, but it is much stiffer. The Verite 4 strand just drapes over your hands.
Side note 2: If you listen to live Grateful Dead, you owe it to yourself to get a ZMF and a tube amp. Deadphones endgame
Do you notice better quality of sound with the silver cable?
Can I tell a difference between silver and copper cables? Yes, on some headphones, and if anything silver seems to skew brighter than copper would. But the impact will vary depending on the headphone, and in most cases it’s not super noticeable. I’ve had a couple higher end headphones where I preferred copper to silver, but it very well may have been psychological
The way I justified the $500 for the Verite 4 Strand was because I owned 6 headphones it would be an upgrade for. If you consider that Periapt cables start at $60ish dollars, it made some justifiable sense to me, but I understand if others question my judgement
