The Auteur is a nuetral headphone. pretty much shows the music as it is. the Aeolus has has a more W shape. its more of an exciting and fun headphone. But it doesnt have a lot of detail. really nice rich sound though
So you’re saying it’s kph30’s scaled up $1k for the Aeolus? I’m sitting back and waiting for my friend to give a review on the Nighthawks to see if that will scratch the different itch.
But i really recommend you get the suede pads. helps with the treble and clarity big time! its like another headphone. do yourself a favor and get them if you buy the Aeolus
more like a scaled up Elex. The Nighthawks are a very dark headphone. i didnt like it
The aeolus?
thats what it reminded me of when i tried it with the suede pads. i kinda wish i handnt got rid of it. it was so nice
I just ordered the Suede pads to try on my Verite. Very excited.
oh you got the verite!? Ive been thinking of buying that headphone. did you buy it new? what do you think of it?
It was “new.” I got the stock unit from canjam so I bet it was well taken care of.
So far I am a really big fan of it. My only complaints are things that are direct results of coming from Focal stuff. I have a feeling these little things (not quite open enough, bit of a treble peak, not enough subass for me.) can all be solved by switching to suede pads, so I’m trying out both the BE2 hybrid pads, and the Auteur Suede.
You should email Zack first and ask his advice on which pads to use for that
whats the tuning like? is it W shaped or nuetral?
Yeah he recommended the Universe Suede and he said that his personal favorite at the time is the BE2 hybrid.
I decided to give the Auteur suede a go instead of the universe though due to the cups being bigger, and I ultimately realized by their chart that the two pads are pretty similar.
I also heard in an interview that Zach says the verite pads with suede are the most neutral and open, so I kind of regret not going with that as well, but maybe something from the two I just ordered will satisfy what I’m looking for.
So far I would say that they are very neutral, and very encompassing. I mean the driver is pretty damn huge. You feel the sound hit your full ear. I would call it like a Focal headphone, but with a Sennheiser veil.
Well i love the Elex. which i hear has a W signature. I prefer a more fun exciting headphone to nuetral. So i was thinking of getting the Verite but i wonder what pads i should get for a W signature
I dont see any BE2 pads on zmf’s website. what does BE stand for? where can i buy them?
From what I’m seeing it would probably be the Auteur pads for W shape. I’m with you on that. I’m seeking out that sound so if I find it I’ll let you know. We’re right there in the same page. I love the Elex and more than the Clear.
Be2 are a “secret” option under the Verite pads. Not sure what it stands for, but it’s supposed to be a marriage between the Universe and the Verite pads. I bet getting the Be2 in perf suede on the Verite would be super close to the focal sound, but you never know until you try.
Thanks! do let me know if you find it
It’s in the drop down on the Verite pads page.
What Polygonhell said
I own the Aeolus and Nighthawk and as far as pleasant/enjoyable go, I think they have me covered. There is some discussion on whether the aeolus or auteur or more worth it, but it seems more preference oriented. The aeolus has more tuning options with its pad changes than the auteur, and the auteur has more of a fun neutral sound overall. I’d look up comparisons/reviews/threads about both, neither of the zmfs would be a bad choice.
