Choosing my last set of Headphones, struggling

Yeah, I got the Suede Universal Pads Perforated on the order for them, and from the Email he said 2-4 weeks. So, I’m good with that. Here is to hoping these blow my mind.

Well, just give them time, they do need break in…but I enjoyed them from the get go … I have faith in you enjoying them, percentage wise  you enjoying them is high.

Awesome, I appreciate all the feedback as well. One last thing, I ordered the Upgraded Cable, the ZMF OFC 4 Pin XLR cable because I heard you want to get one of the upgraded cables. Is it really that big of a jump for just the cable only? and are the $200+ cables he sells any better or just looks, cause Dang they look sexy.

I have the OFCs they are better then stock for feel and looks. The higher end cables look awesome! I am not a cable person but plenty of people say they make a difference. But if and when they do it is probably less than 5% if that…I would say it is the very last thing to upgrade on headphones unless you have the means and really like the look…which I am all for some neck candy lol…but you can probably get peripat cables for cheaper with a custom paracord color…but yeah ZMF cables are very good looking…I’ve added and removed a couple different sets a couple times now…but I have a friend that does custom cables every nice and awhile and I’m waiting to buy a set from them…(they are not cheap, but very versatile and have amazing quality)

How did it turn out after all this time?

I have Focal Clears, and HD 600’s and other cans, but just got a good deal on HD800s and will have them next tuesday…will be interesting in that I like the Clears and the 600’s different for sure, but both make me smile…and always wanted to experience the soundstage of the 800’s…with a 60 day return I can try and return if not to my liking.

So true!!..The one set I still really want to hear are the ZMF Verites…but they are just a bit too much for my budget. Maybe someday I will come across a great deal!!

Sad but I returned the HD800s…after 2 days and doing a side by side with the Focal Clears…I dodnt listen to the Clears until I had 8 hours or so with the new HD800s…these were a scratch and dent sale for just under $1K. Cans were perfect, original packaging and box were the scratch and dent part…actually a good deal for 800s IMO.

The overall sound to me is just too “thin and lacking the body” that my brain seems to want.

I dont eq.

So on day two when I put on the Clears it was, WOW, why am doing this? I let a friend and my wife (golden ears) listen to both and they both choses the Clears over the 800s…

I was devastated!! I wanted to like the 800s so much…after all a good deal of great cans adds to the end result.

So IMO the Clears are really an awesome headphone, especially when mine were $999 on sale !!

I do have for years the HD600’s which I really like,go figure and still do…so the 800s prgression to me made sense! Oh Well…

One thing I have learned is you can read all the reviews in the world and get in the ball park, but there is NO reaplacement for actually trying things out in your environment…

So we are looking at the ZMF Aeolus for a possible new headphone!!

Large fan of both the clears and the 600 lol. I tend to think of the 800s as an audiophile midlife crisis headphone, people get them and have them for a few months, but they realize they want something else or don’t like them lol

So where do ZMF Aeolus fall for people? I was having a similar discussion that when people find the headphones they have that suit their test (for example, something for their needs for analytical listening). My buddy has Stax L300’s so he’s good on his tastes… but what about good headphones that are pleasant/fun/enjoyable different? Without hearing them I keep thinking Aeolus and Nighthawk are the best options.

Maybe some other people might be in a similar boat they’re looking for that final piece for the collection (for a while a least) that just good but unique and fun.

Really depends on what you are looking for imo, there are so many options and unfortunately none of them are the best lol

Its all a matter of personl taste…After doing this for 40 years…you gott to try these on your head at home…

As far as mid-life crisis…not here, I am way past mf life !!! LOL!!!

If you like accurate, wonderful tonality, listen to violin strings, the forcefull guitar strumming of Eva Cassidy up close, the Diana Krall voice that makes you melt…with most good amps and dacs

The Focal Clears are very hard to beat IMO…

Like M0N said “so many options and good options”…

I should really cut down on what I own but I love them all so it’s hard lol

The Aeolus are a very good headphone, but they are very smooth and lack really great timbre IMO. If your considering the Aeolus, my personal suggestion would be to move up to one of the ZMF Biodynamic driver headphones.

I really like the eikon and auteur more than the aeolus

Between the NDH-20, LCD X, Blon B20… I want something just different and fun, hence the Aeolus. The Autuer’s intrigue me.

I have time as I’m waiting for the Panda’s come in and compare how they sound/play with the rest of the collection.

I would say the eikon or auteur are more fun than the aeolus imo

I have some auditioning of headphones to do then.
