Closed Back Reco For Under $2k

Looking to purchase a set of closed back headphones and looking for some feedback. Here is my source chain…

I’ve been an IEM guy for a while and looove my 64 Audio A12T and Tia Trio.

As far as headphones, I had the Focal Radiance which I felt was a little too nasally with a bump at around 1.5k that I just couldn’t ignore. I ended-up selling those and now looking for a replacement.

I also own the AKG K361 and am quite impressed with their sound for the price.

I’ve discovered over the years that I prefer headphones with tonality that closely approximates the 2018 Harman target and prefer if there a very slight drop in mids at around the 1.5-2k region (2-3db at most).

I prefer not to have to EQ and would love a headphone that can be run from my Fiio M11 DAP as well as my desktop DAC/Amp.

I’ve pretty much seen all of the video reviews of T50RP Argon MkIII, T60RP Argon, Stelia, LCD-XC…etc. Having a difficult time settling on something to buy. I have no local shops around me to audition so this will likely mean that I will need to buy blind based on recos, reviews and my own research. Would love to hear thoughts on recommendations and why.

I just picked up a pair of ZMF Aeolus and they are not disappointing me at all. I have the to replace my broken Elex. Take a look at the Eikon or Atticus for their closed backs.

Hmmm I would rec D9200 in that case. was going to rec eikon but the need to be able to run from the m11 would be problematic.

Anyways any songs you like that we can sample to get a better feel?

I have a pretty eclectic taste in music. While I don’t typically like country music or EDM, all other types of music are enjoyable to me. I know that probably doesn’t help as much as might have hoped. If it sounds good, I’m likely to enjoy it regardless of genre.

have you looked at DCA stuff they generally follow harmon

ZMF Eikon have a 1.5-2k dip you might like.

Yes, I should mention that DCA is also in the running, I think most specifically the Aeon 2 Noire.

My vote: NDH20 - relaxed upper mids and harman tuning.

Hm if buying used is an option, a zmf verite could also be in your alley if focal sound to nasely to you
