Comparing the JDS Labs Atom and SMSL SP200 THX AAA 888

T1.2 [Ninja], LCD-2 rev1, NDH 20, 6XX mostly

Also have a BH Crack and Liquid Platinum on the tube front. Using ADI-2 Pro for DAC. Thinking about getting a Bifrost 2…

Gotcha, well you should be covered imo, I think I would say you would mainly want to invest in more headphones tbh

Been thinking about my next HP purchase. Was considering Elex, but learned it can clip @ high volumes or loud bass, which has me concerned. Any recs? Like to keep it below $700 ideally.

It really doesn’t happen unless you push it really hard tbh. Unless you plan on eqing like 20db of low end and boosting the bass it really won’t happen

You pretty much have to play test tones to make it happen.

Ok cool. Think it would be a worthy addition considering my current phones?

BTW, I do enjoy my SP200, but agree that it is far from flawless. Definitely have noticed the issues mentioned. But still am glad I got it. Wouldn’t want to have only the SP200 though, IMO.

I think it would be something different for you collection and might be worthwhile

Sweet. Thanks, bud. Any thoughts on the Bifrost 2?

The regular or the multibit? I would only go for the multibit tbh

I think the new Bifrost 2 is MB only?

Ah, well that solves it lol. It is pretty nice, it has great soundstage width and placement, and a warmer sound compared to the adi 2

Just got a notification that my RNHP was shipped

A LOT earlier than I had anticipated. Will keep you guys updated how I like it in the coming days.

So RNHP is the new hype lol.

I wouldn’t say hype. It just started because I pointed out the flaws with THX tech and asked what the next logical step would be, which happens to be the RNHP.

Can’t wait to hear it in person. If it’s as dynamic and musical as the SP200 minus the obvious shortcomings the SP200 had (scratchy mids and overly textured vocals), I’ll be in absolute audio heaven for a while.

Sorry, I said “hype” as “interest” or the new “trend” in this forum. Not saying it’s bad or anything like that, I just noticed a few people buying it recently.

My SP200 doesn’t display any of the issues others have reported. Maybe I have a unicorn model, or DAC synergy is extremely important? I have my SP200 paired with an Enog2 Pro. My Atom sounded really good with my old Topping D50 that I sold a while back.
