Comparing the JDS Labs Atom and SMSL SP200 THX AAA 888

@MazeFrame The purifier for 22 bucks arrived today (the new RNHP will arrive on monday according to tracking info). I’ve taken some pics for you in case you were wondering how it looks on the inside :+1:t2:

Thanks man. Very much appreciated.

Edit:
Just looking at it, it is a clever layout.
Current path looks like:

Capacitors → Common Mode Filter → Capacitors → Common Mode → Choke (one in GND, one in V_out) → Fuse (1.1A)

Some small capacitors to react to sharp spikes throughout.
I might copy that design

@M0N Do you by any chance know if the original PSU the RNHP ships with is center positive or center negative? I might also try other 24V DC PSUs of higher quality if I can’t get rid of the whistle and would think that polarity matters.

I think it’s outer negative, inner positive, but don’t quote me on that one

ENOG 2 obliterates the modi 3.

I’m listening to the stack right now.

The 2.5 pro and enog stack smacks up any thx under 500 imo (unless you really need the power)

Really happy to hear that! I was looking for cables for my stack (which arrives on monday) and I think I’ll go with these two. Only thing I’m worried about is that since the spdif connection is on the front I’ll have to get a slightly longer cable and I really like this FosPower one but maybe the nylon material is gonna be too stiff? Since it’s gonna have to bend towards the back and under. Maybe I’m overthinking all of this.

Only downside I have with the Enog is how you can’t make it look pretty as it has cables on both sides of the unit

I’m using the amazon basics SPDIF (optical cable) and I’m using these RCA

The balanced cable doesn’t provide any real benefit other than an optional way to connect the amp to DAC.

If you stored the DAC in a closet or a room across the house or building that is where the benefit of XLR balanced really becomes useful to remove possible RF interference/ground loop noise.

The amps that are being released today really don’t benefit much if at all from XLR.

The SP200 888, THX 789 both aren’t really balanced and the Archel 2.5 isn’t either. It separates the right and left channels internally, keeping the signal really clean.

That was my only complaint in my review

Thanks for the info. I’m hoping to connect to the Archel through the XLR and use the RCAs to the darkvoice. Haven’t done too much research but should work (I think).

It should work fine, just hold down the button to swap sources. That is a prime example of why the XLR are actually there.

Amen brother.

I ran the power wire back under the DAC its thin and slips right back under, The SPDIF goes around the left side so it doesn’t go across the front and doesn’t interfere with the Archel 2.5 volume knob

Maybe not “pretty”, but this stack sure looks badass. Enjoy!

@M0N so, what can I say?

This little 19€ gadget has actually fixed my problem … It has ACTUALLY worked!!!

The RNHP is absolutely DEAD silent. The whistle is COMPLETELY gone with it and I’m lost for words honestly. This little thing actually does its job as avertised and I’m completely shocked.

I’ve tested the RNHP without it too to be sure it was still the same, which it was, so it’s actually doing its job! Completely lost for words.

I can recommend this little purifier MORE THAN ANYTHING and I’m so incredibly happy right now that I found a solution that lets me keep the RNHP and be happy with it. Unbelievable, really.

Is there a link for that?

I bought it from Thomann in Europe.

Good to hear.

A bit sad those 20€ were not spent on the PSU on a 540€ headphone amp in the first place.
