as the title says looking for complimentary headphones for Focal Clear.
what I’m looking for is something like a upgrade to Argons as a darker set and maybe a brighter set.
currently looking at some ZMF’s (mainly Aeolus) and Hifiman Arya stealth (if it goes back on sale) but open to suggestions if anyone else has rec’s, looking for similar price range or lower so around $1000
(main use will be music and I listen to basically everything lol)
I think you are down the right road with the ZMF. Where focals tend to be more energetic and fun they lacked on natural sounding for me. The ZMF isn’t as energetic but it is very fun and natural sounding, plus you can pad roll till your hearts content.

I recommend Edition Xs or/and Dt1990 pro. “Only” 500€ each. You save money.

PD. A good friend try EDXS and Clear (normal, not OG or MG) and prefer EDXS sound.
(EDXS need 80-100 hours of burn (yes, its noticiable) and the amp is a must).
