Custom Cables for Hifiman Sundara

Hello guys, I am new to the audiophile world, and Zeos really opened my eyes, and I am buying my first pair of actually GOOD headphones, which will be the Hifi-Man Sundara’s. I am buying them used for $140 shipped and in mint condition with no defects which I thought was a killer deal, especially since Zeo’s praised these units and they sound right up my alley, sound wise. The question I have is, Zeo’s and a lot of others said the cable is not the greatest, and I want to build my own set of custom cables. So I need help picking out what exactly I need to make a couple different pairs of cables that will fit and work for the Sundara’s. I have looked around and I haven’t really found many sites or information regarding this topic and I cannot afford a pre made cable for $60-75 USD or more. I had to sell my processor from my computer in order to buy the headphones, as I am kinda lower middle class and I just want to enjoy music the way I deserve as music as saved my life several different times. Any help would be greatly appreciated!

140 for a great condition working is a steal, thats a pretty good find.

Yup, that works just as well. You can get equally cheap from amazon too

Any guide for diy 4.4mm balanced cable for sundara. I am a bit confuse which part (i.e. TRRRS) of 4.4mm plug should be connected to which 3.5mm portion (i.e. T, or, R, or S in TRS plug).

Hmm let me see if I can help make sense of it:

3.5mm TRS layout:

T: L+
R: R+
S: Gnd (You can think of this as the R- and L- signals being combined here for our purposes)

4.4mm TRRRS Layout:

T: L+
R1: L-
R2: R+
R3: R-
S: Chassis Ground (I say chassis ground just to try to differentiate it, a lot of times it’s not used, if you have shielding on your cable you can attach it here to reduce noise, if you’re not sure, and your cable is not too long, you can just leave the Sleeve unused)

Hopefully it’s clear that between the TRS and TRRRS you need to be able to pass 4 discrete signals, basically meaning you need at least a 4 conductor wire to properly utilize a 4.4mm connector. If you’re trying to adapt an existing cable, make sure it has 4 wires (it should), if it does, you’ll need to figure out which is R- and which is L-, and attach them to the 4.4mm accordingly.

I hope that helped!
