My little DAP that I use says it has a power output of 70 mw + 70 mw. I assume that means 70 mw per channel, but does that mean the total output power is 140 mw, or does it not work like that?
The power output you see for most headphone gear (and speaker amps for that matter) are measured and quoted as “per channel” figures, in headphone world you’ll see “wpc” watts per channel often.

Yes. That does mean you have 140mW on tap. But keep in mind that there is no standard meadure of power. Some companies measure per channel some measure total. Some measure instantaneous max some measure sustained. Further, some measure at 1% THD while others measure at 0.01%thd. Tbh without knowing exactly how power is measured it should always be looked at with a grain of salt imo.
