Darkvoice 336SE tube rolling

It’s a deep rabbit hole… . I keep warning my coworker who wants to get an amp… so much to learn from this hobby.

Very clean sound compared to a lot of other tubes I’ve tried. Sounds great with the Auteur, but the 6xx sounds better with the Tung Sol imo

The two biggest improvements I have discovered with the DV have been using the Schiit Valhalla 2 as a pre-amp, setting & leaving the volume on the DV to about 7 o’clock, and then hooking both units up to a power conditioner. I have tube rolled a bunch but these two changes made the biggest differences.

There’s a few good tubes here if anyone is interested, it’s a UK Website.

Grabbed a kenrad fat base white label

Where did you get your adapter from I can only find clear weird looking ones

you’ll want to head over to headfi.org and look for this member —> DEYAN . He is from Bulgaria.

I wanted to know if the adapters add noise to the amp? is this is the case I heard rumors of that with other amps

No, everything’s fine.
I bought some from him and he is serious.
You can rely on it.
If there is something wrong, just talk to him, he is quite unproblematic.
The adapters are quite stable.

mostly with Chifi adapters, Deyans adapters are way better and custom built.

Sweet ill have to order one. So sounds like they’re significantly better but regardless there will be extra noise added?

Hello,
You can’t say that.
I have Euforia socketsavers on my Feliks and there is a slight buzz.
But it went away when I plugged it in.

The adapter depends on what tube you want to use.
So if you plug in an adapter from 6sn7 to KT 66 with a tube on the Darkvoice.
This can produce noise, but it doesn’t have to.
It depends very much on how well the Darkvoice would cope with it.
This is normal as every tube amplifier reaches its limits at some point and of course was not designed for this.

This is the case with the Feliks Euforia, for example.
Feliks knows about this and recommends not to experiment with adapters because it can destroy them.

It really depends on certain experience values that are discussed in the community, have been tried and what also achieves a good result.

But if you are just looking for a simple socket saver, then stay away from the Made in China market, they are really bad and not worth the money.
The ones I bought from Aliexpress made a noise and the tube really wobbled.
Better to look at the Eu, Us or Canadian market.
Tubemonger always makes shockproof socketsavers in limited quantities, but they cost a bit.
On the photo, however, they look damn well made.
The price per unit is about $36.

Personally, I’m not a fan of using an amplifier design concept with other tubes with an adapter.
Because, as mentioned, it brings some problems with it.
I see the added value more in capacitors.
Apart from the fact that the Chinese tube amplifiers save money, this can be more of an advantage to replace them.
I have seen this with my Little Dot 1+ after its repair, the defective parts replaced with better or the same parts in better quality and have since then no more problems with the sound or temperature of the device.
The Elna’s were replaced with Nichicon FG as an example, the Op amp with the Burson V5i.
The power supply was replaced with Audionote capacitors purely as an example.

No Xtra noise … just what the tubes enheritly brings to the table. The Darkvoice has a bad heater design. A good tube amp will have the two heater wires intertwined to offset any noise. And with soft wire. The Darkvoice uses one hard wire (think wire hanger) not wound up straight to the socket. …very bad design, and because of that you get the hum that everyone complains about with the Darkvoice. Not to mention the heater wire can vary it’s voltage dependent on your outlet source. My outlet for example is at 123 volt bringing the heater volt in the Darkvoice to 7.5 volts! the transformer in the Darkvoice is not well made and rated at 110v so it struggles at regulating the necessary voltages. The heater voltage for 6SN7 tubes are 6.3v so the heater voltage from the Darkvoice should be at least 10% of that. You’d have to measure your heater sockets output to know for sure where your at but 9 times out of ten if your getting that annoying him, it’s the heater voltage bit being at the 6.3v mark and design of it. The easiest work around is letting the tube burn in some and that sometimes work. On some tubes you need 100 hours of burn in time. If your savy enough a simple heater mod will take care of it …well it’s not simple if you don’t know how to solder with a solder iron but for my case, I learned. Anyways, the adapter will not help if there’s him in place to begin with nor will it add any, at least not Deyans adapters. those are point to point design, well built and last long time. Good luck.

I’m not gonna lie I ended up getting some adapter off ebay. But thankfully to incredible success I run 2x 62S2 reflector tubes and my Darkvoice has never sounded better. Thanks so much for the original post that led me to this it’s amazing how it transforms the dark voice.

I recently saw that in the mid bass region that the impedance of the DT880 600ohm the impedance swings up to 700 ohms so no doubt there’s issues with the 880. It really needs to be EQ’d to fix the issues with it.

I’d recommend checking out Audio sciences review on some of the issues of the DT 880 and some of the fixes that can be done through EQ.

I definitely still think the Darkvoice is the amp to run this headphone for sure

Looked up 62S2 and nothing pops up on Google… so you got a dual 62S2 to single 6sn7 adapter?

The DT770 250ohm sounds excellent. Especially after swapping out the pads to a thicker leather/suede Dekoni.

There seems to be a bunch of names for the 6J5 tube. But essentially what you’re running. Wanted to say a quick thanks for the original post. Definitely changed my use of the darkvoice.

Yeah pad swaps definitely change the sound on Beyers a lot. I just wish there were more graphs showing what its doing to the sound.

lol …gotcha… alright, yes …those are nice. thanks. There’s a gang of 6J5 variants out there. These should all fit that one adapter —> Reference 6J5 Thread
