No, just heat and electricity, set it and forget it. Found a link but it can be a little daunting. Don’t try this till later later.
Well I ran the Sylvania overnight, and the hum moved from just the right channel to both channels. No hum with the stock tubes, both of them. I tried pairing with the stock 6AS7 and Sylvania 6080, and the hum was definitely there. This is quite the curiosity.
I’d still continue with the overnight thing. I’ve had some Russion tubes take a week to burn in. If anything try cleaning the metal pins under the Sylvania with rubbing alcohol with a qtip, might help.
Got it. Will do just that.
OK! I got a new Tube to try out - an RCA VT-231 with smoked glass - burned that in overnight. Hum GONE. No hum after burn in. Found my new favorite 6SN7 for this. And it sounds so languid, warm, yet clear. It sounds perfect.
Awesome. Great tube .
Question. I’ve seen an adapter to roll a a 12AU7 into the 6SN7 slot. Has anyone tried this? I have some extra Amperex 12AU7s, and I’m tempted to see what happens. Is it safe? Will it do good things?
it’s safe as long as you don’t crank that volume.
