So just saw the E-MU Walnut are starting preorder for 75$ (i know you can also order them for 99$ from E-Mu) and was wondering how do they hold up nowadays. are they pretty generic or they got a nice “edge” to them

Yes, massdrop is one thing.
If the goods are not in stock and have to be ordered first, the waiting process is a pain.
When it is in stock it is quite fast.
Otherwise, if you see the same product somewhere else, buy it there.
It’s quicker.
I bought the Purpelheart from Massdrop a year ago. Assdrop and it was available and it took about 14 days until it was in Germany.
Otherwise I’m happy with the sound, it offers a lot for the money.
Better than what I see or have heard in electronics stores.
It’s worth it and I think it’s better than the Dt770 from Beyerdynamic, to be honest.
That was my first one at the time.
If you still have a good one, it’s definitely fun and desirable.
I suppose the Walnut is a little less V-shaped than the Purpelheart.
So it’s a bit W-shaped in terms of sound.
