Does Audio Quality Improve Gaming Performance?

I’ve noticed that audio quality changes the gaming experience way more than most people realize, especially in strategy and competitive games where small sound details matter.

For example, in mobile strategy games, being able to clearly hear attack alerts, troop deployment sounds, or timing cues actually helps with focus and reaction time during longer sessions. Recently, I started comparing different headphone setups while playing strategy games, and the difference in sound separation was surprisingly noticeable.

I’ve also been reading about how gamers optimize both performance and gameplay strategy together through communities and sites where players discuss planning, timing, and game mechanics in detail.

For people here who also game occasionally:
Do you notice a real difference between budget headphones and higher-end audio gear during gaming sessions, or is it mostly noticeable for music listening?

Most games, especially console ports, do best at 48khz 24 bit. Running a 32 bit DAC is fine too in 32 bit mode. The big problem is when a video card runs full tilt gaming, USB noise goes way up. Optical, or I use a JDS Synapse for USB.

I am not a competitive gamer but do enjoy my gaming sessions MUCH more with high quality gear (DAC, desktop speakers and sub, headphones, and occasionally IEMs). Not just to better hear ambient sounds and direction coming from, like footsteps, etc., but also for the music, weather sounds, and dialog from NPCs.

Sure footsteps might more noticeable and pin point / imaging the source better + you might get a target hit better so improving your score as in better performance i guess. That audio being a very small part and precise need for a purpose in that particular game.

But as in does audio quality improve gaming experience.
100% yes. Music, vocals, dialog, effects and the range + depth of effects from sub bass to the very high end. Pure enjoyment increase with better quality.
