Has anyone checked out Dolby Atmos music on Tidal, I’ve never listen to proper surround sound music before and I am impressed, I don’t think it’s gimmicky at all, you just get a massive sound stage that comply surrounds you. I hope this takes off, it’s a really interesting and new way to listen to music and Tidal makes it easy for people who aren’t super technical.
Haven’t yet but I will now. Didn’t know atmos music was a thing. Thanks for the heads up.
It’s very good and a unique experience I think once Zeos hears it hell rethink saying rear and side channels don’t matter. But it only works with Apple TV 4k, Fire TV, Nvidia Shield, and Dolby Atmos enabled Android TVs from Sony and Philips. I’ve found that its also works on the new Chromecast with Google TV as well witch is what I’m using since my TCL TV with Roku is not supported.
I’ve been trying it out for a bit and it’s interesting to see how certain audio engineers are playing with it. Usually the best implementations are those specific electronica albums that knew their mix was going to atmos and of course the already mixed soundtracks (Star Wars IX is one). But there are unfortunately a few albums that don’t utilize at all that much. I think Tidal could really have something special if they start releasing surround movie OSTs.
I was listening to this album (I know, I like country music) and I really thought it was interesting how they used the rear channels to basically expand the sound stage and make it super wide. Morgan Wallen’s voice is dead center the whole time and it really does sound like I’m standing in front of a stage listening to a band.
