Don't jump into conclusions! Lesson learned

Saw this video this morning, and immediately thought about the hifiman 4xx, I was immediately impressed by it as a headphone but also immediately decided it wasn’t my style and was sibilant. Here I stand maybe a week later of actual burn in, multiple use and there is NO SIGN of sibilance I enjoy my precious kpop the most with it (over my 58x babies) and enjoy some classical music with it. These headphones have that spatial feel and all I’m remembering is the roller coaster of liking it, not liking it, kind of digging it, not liking it for days and until recently finally hearing it in its true form (like a Pokémon) and absolutely loving it. Honestly the 4xx and the 58x are now equally useful to me now and love both pretty evenly. With the sibilance burned out these open up a new world for pop

the damn 58x were SO tight on my big ass head and i was bummed out because i really love the sound… they basically sat un used for weeks (cuz i drew a conclusion) but just yesterday i decided to try to adjust it to my liking and stretch out the band and adjust and stretch and adjust and stretch etc etc and finally the damn headphones fit better (not perfect but totally usable) and i am able to enjoy them further.
(the 4xx are SO heavy but i still love the fit, huge pads. i did put a wool headband cover on the band to lessen the blow and stretching it out is much easier and effective rather than on the 58x.)

There you go, I had the same issue with the 58x. Thankfully mon told me about how to stretch them. Btw you should stretch them once more, the first time I did it it worked well but I also needed a bit more. Then did it the next day and it was way looser. Mine are at a point where the cups don’t touch each other anymore

And ur right, I love the 4xx fit too. Sometimes I get a hot spot when using them sitting down so I have to put the band really back or most of the time I lay down while listening to them. Oh yeah the round cups are perfect for laying down on a pillow

I hated the Grados at first, it was like I had cut-out tin cans on my head. Now they’re my favourite (not most used) headphone.
I did go on a weird journey with the PC37x though. I hated it at first, muffled and almost no midrange, then it opened up a lot with various amps (I think it has the X2HR beat for width). Now I come back to hating the muffled bass again. I’m thinking of just ripping them apart to see what mods I can do.

Damn, from hating them to becoming you favorite headphones is a pretty big jump. Shows how much time you really have to give to audio related things. It’s not like a TV where you immediately know if you truly like it

I think the Grados are an odd case because they’re just so damn treble focused. I’d never had anything like that before, but once you appreciate it as trying to do one thing exceptionally well the all-rounders can’t compete with it until you go triple the price.

Yeah im really really curious about those. I actually want some, mostly since they are quite divisive in the community and to add them to the collection. I’m not super treble sensitive but can be so I feel like those might really test me haha

I took Zeos’ mod and bought the wider G-cushion pads for the SR60. I just bought the misodiko pads though, I’m not paying $50 for a bit of foam that looks like it came out of a packing crate.

I’ll always tell people to burn/break in the HE4XX. I also like my Grado’s a lot. I don’t use them as much, but I’m glad that I have them. I really want to hear the Grado whites. I don’t know why I really want a set of them. lol

For the record, I always bend the plastic on the sennheiser 600 series headphones… lol. I’ve never had an issue with paint cracking or cracks. It’s a very malleable plastic.

The 58x is different as it has the glossy paint that other 6 series do not, so the headband can crack

There is a reason i have kept every single piece purchased, i find that each one has strengths and weaknesses. Once i learn their strengths and peculiarities i am better able to apply them in those situations and just enjoy them for what they are.

Few pieces, especially budget priced, are special wonders that do all things well. Even many high dollar pieces of equipment have flaws, strengths and weaknesses. I don’t care who you are, using anything for a few hours and not having multiple other pieces to compare it to will not allow you to learn all about it. few people are the exception, with enough experience in ALL things music, and many years of knowledge and practical hands on skills to be able to test a piece and find all its flaws and strengths in 1 or 2 short sessions.

Anyway, i agree, don’t jump to conclusions, there are tons of stuff you won’t like and if youdon’t have patience to deal with stuff, yep, go ahead and move on. Personally i like having different styles, flavors and abilities around to play with and enjoy for what they are. It’s called a hobby for a reason, you should be enjoying in your own way. Good listening to all💪

Without the bad (purchases) there is no good (purchases), everything just is.
