just throw in some white noise, you will be fineā¦
There are some YouTube videos for different burn in and honestly they all work pretty well. Pink noise at like 75-80 volume is fine for initial burn in.
Just out of interest, if you listen to this test MP4 at a reasonably high volume with the PC38X do you get any popping? https://gofile.io/d/GhTxJd
Iāll test when I get home.
forgot to update you but i just checked and mine do not rattle at all in that test even at extremely high volume
Thanks for letting me know, maybe these are just faulty then. Burn in for another 15 hours hasnt done much
but some were so sure it would become better. Why it did not help?
Tested the Atmos sound sample with 6XX for fun and loud, no rattles.
that sounds defectiveā¦ no burn in is going to fix a driver rattling, would recommend contacting the company over that if you can get it resolved. Had these in house myself and had no such issues such as a form of popping or rattling on my drivers
He did mention the following: āIt will only happen at certain volumes or if I have the bass boost on my Ifi zen dac turned on.ā
So there is a possibility, itās caused by very loud volume and or bass boost that causes clipping on some 128mp3 or youtube clip.
That might have borked the drivers.
If warranty is available, that is a good route to try to replace them.
Still, strange thing that burn-in did not help. Wonder why, i wonder why.
Aye, at least Drop customer service seems decent, they sent the label and everything to print and RMA via UPS drop point.
Clipping was probably a bad word for me to use, its more a loud crack / pop you can hear in the recording I posted. Never had any other headphones act like this so I guess they are just faulty. Itās not really a āvery loudā volume, at a normal loudish āgamingā volume really.
Anyway, thanks for the advice all, Iāll get a replacement set and report back.
Well I just received my second pairā¦ aaaand they do exactly the same thing, rattle/pop at low frequencies at any reasonable volume Guess I wonāt be bothering with another pair!
Hello Falenkor, greetings.
I purchased the PC38X unfortunately after reading the reviews and comments on this forum and have encountered the problems that are mentioned in the forum. I had previously owned the SHP9500ās and although there is some improvement, I expected much more from them because of all the reviews I had heard about them.
I am looking for new headphones that can give me a better imaging: the imaging is good and better compared to the SHP9500, but I still find it difficult to identify the direction and distance of the targets. Another big problem is the separation, which does not allow me to hear the footsteps clearly when there are many sounds happening at the same time; I am not sure if it is a separation problem or if the footsteps are not sufficiently emphasized.
So I was hoping to get your help on which headphones between the dt880 and the dt990; the tygr 300r would be a good choice, but unfortunately I have never seen them back in stock. Iām looking for the option that will allow me to hear the best footsteps and details within the games at a competitive level, that has the best possible imaging and soundstage as well.
And lastly to ask if the āproā versions of the dt880 and dt990 headphones are exactly the same in terms of sound compared to their standard versions. If all the virtues you mention of both models also applied yo the pro models as well.
I ask because the pro versions are apparently the easiest to buy.
Thanks for your help
lol hey there, may have been better to tag me on this one or message me directly. Stumbled upon this
Quite unfortunate, I get messages about this rather often with people who are pretty upset that they bought the 38x yet it doesnāt perform anywhere near as good as the reviewers claim. Great headset, awful headphone.
mixture of both depending on the game actually
youd most likely need an amp if you donāt have one. 990 and tygr have the same performance but 990 has more clarity on the fps soundsā¦ at the same time too much in the bass(not that big of a deal breaker but worth mentioning). 990 is extremely sharp sounding and can be a big deal breaker while tygr is more dialed back and more acceptable all around. Both perform better than 880. 880 is a mid centric bright headphone with a very neutral signature outside of its treble. Semi open back, relatively large soundstage, and very good imaging, more of a jack of all trades like the tygr can be.
They are the same headphone with certain differences. Premium or sometimes listed as Edition have a straight cable, less head clamp, different aesthetic, and can come in 600 ohms while pro is designed for studio use with a coiled cable and more headclamp but only come in 250 ohm maximum. Note that the higher ohm variants sound at their best if you can drive them with an appropriate amp
Do you guys use velour or cloth pads? Which is better for warzone?
I use the velour pads, I didnāt think the others quite sounded right. Ymmv, so be sure to try out both.
You might be rightā¦it sounds a bit better to me. Or at least I think it does .
The knit pads are definitely better for placement but they do sound a little dry.
Spent the last 3 hours testing both pads. Warzone is def better with the velour pads. The velour pads ups the frequencies in the 700hz and below ranges, where a vast majority of the gameās footsteps can be found.
Unlike other games where footsteps are closer to higher frequencies. So for warzone specifically seems like velour are better.
Well, looks like I found/joined this forum a day late and $125 short I just bought these āusedā from FB marketplace yesterday (used in quote because pics showed everything but the headphones, including mic, in its packaging). Had the TYGRs new in my cart on Beyer at $170 also, so I hope I wonāt come to regret it.
Weāll see how I feel about them once they arrive. Iāll be using them mainly for gaming anyways, and if better than the M50X or XM3 musically (Phone/streaming), Iāll switch to these as well. (Not an audiophile by any means, just like having nice things )
Currently own the ATH-M50X, Sony XM3, and HyperX Cloud Alpha.
Ok, I figured Iād add my non audiophile first impression.
As a gaming headsetā¦ this thing rocks! Iāve had 2 sets of HyperX headphones, my M50X, and Sony XM3, and I can definitely tell a difference wearing these. The Audio Technica ATH-M50X would be itās closest competitor in terms of clarity, but thereās something āExtraā about the PC38X. Iām not experienced enough to say āImagingā or āSoundstageā, but for gaming alone it was worth the purchase ($125).
For musicā¦ I already read enough to know I should not be impressed, so I wasnāt surprised when I wasnāt āwowedā by my first pair of open back headphones. Theyāre still good, no doubt, but I canāt tell you that I canāt tell a difference between āopen backā vs āclosedā from my selection asides from being able to hear my dogs bark
Regarding ear pads, I put the Velour pads on, but testing both, I canāt say I can tell a true difference. Although, I canāt rule out hat I may have some ear fatigue by default as I work with a loud ass forklift that gives Apple Watch wearers a warning on decibles, and while testing my other headphones, my iPhone gave me several warnings on my āregularā listening volumeā¦ I should probably heed said warningsā¦ sitting here with no sound, thereās a slight high pitch sound in my ears, so donāt take my opinion or impressions as a credible sourceā¦
Iāll probably edit this or update once I have another ādecentā or good pair of headphones to compare to.
