🔷 Drop THX Panda

Was at NYC CANJAM this past weekend. Dekoni had a pair to sample. I am def a noob at analyzing sound but I can at least speak to the feeling of the headphones physical quality.

They felt very solid and well made. The padding up top was basically non-existent but the headphones felt very comfortable.

Dekoni also mentioned they are making pads for the headphones. They mentioned maybe two types, suede and leather.

any other questions i’ll be happy to try and answer

What. How did I miss this lol. Damn I was looking to see if they had one

it was sitting next to a pair of dekoni blues… you were probably distracted by the color and totally missed the pandas

I may have just skipped dekoni altogether lol, most likely because I had already heard the blues and wasn’t interested in their pads. Now I gotta just make sure I hit everything lol

I listened to the drop x ifi stack but didn’t see pandas, so I figured they weren’t there

i missed that one… was that at ifi?

I believe so, it’s a separate zen stack essentially, with a separate dac and separate amp with a built in eq setting for the 6xx, but that is optional from what I have been told

The dac sounded similar to the Zen dac (but can’t confirm as I didn’t have one to compare and noisy show), but the amp did sound better from memory, nice unit overall. I do wonder what pricing will be

I do wonder why the DAC has a volume knob on it…

You can set it to variable or fixed, it’s more for if you just get the dac, you can control powered monitors, kinda nice to have actually. although aesthetics wise I’m not the biggest fan

I like the look of the stack personally. It’s a lot more visually interesting than a schiit stack that’s for sure

That’s true, I just wish the volume knob wasn’t as pronounced imo (at least for the dac)

Looks fine to me and I prefer a big ol’ knob for functionality sake

I just wish the knob on the dac was optional, the amp I am just fine with, it just looks weird with the dual knob on a stack like that

Hmm… DAC/optional Pre-AMP. Interesting. Wish the branding wasn’t so in your face. I can just hear Zeos going on about how there’s not enough room for his fingers with the knobs, particularly with them stacked like that. The 6XX EQ feels like it’s something almost no one will use. Also feels kinda wrong to make a feature purpose built for one singular headphone.

It was nice to have, it was cool, I can see people using it. You can allegedly get it without that too so I would assume most people wouldn’t get that feature.

Would it simply be a separate model, or the same model, and you’d simply never use the feature?

I am not sure, I didn’t ask further

We’ll have to wait and see.

Of horizontal symmetry sake I honestly don’t see anything wrong with it and welcome function over form for the Most part

Already in love with the look
The 6xx profile switch is really nice idea
Did a Screenshot out of the headfi youtube video from the profile and am goingt to try it on my RME ADI 2, when my 6xx arrives this week

I also find it a bit strange with 2 volume knobs in the stack. For people with powered monitors it’s nice to have though.

Really curious about the price
Won’t add this(DAC and Amp) to my chain, with the ifi xDSD already in posession.

The Burr Browns are a real good option if you start out and don’t want a ESS sabre implementation.

Any information on power out of the AMP?

Isn’t it ironic to EQ the 6XX? Heh.
I mean they’re already one of the most neutral sounding.
