At $320 early bird deal itâs easier to swallow. Lots of campaigns gets delayed anyway, so paying more for an âearlierâ delivery is already a weak motivator.
I wished they sent some for review. I have a few BT and really donât need any more.
At least Linus has the common sense to understand you canât just slap them with an iPhone and expect people to take you seriously
Hey⌠if something like Drop Panda becomes popular in the mainstream⌠then it could shift the market entirely and help push more companies towards better sounding and better tuned headphonesâŚ
Which means⌠less compression in modern recordings and masters and an overall better musical experience for the rest of us. =D
LMG (Linus Media Group) is a considerable size video production company. They got writers who are payed to read into subjects and write a well informed script.
While LMG videos tend to be shallow, they rarely are wrong.
Like the 5600 xtâŚ
Or whatever comes next with his âI quitâ videoâŚ
At least he was man enough to come out and personally admit fault and explain why things went wrong.
Deeper explanation and insight into whatâs been going on behind the scenes. Not everyone can do it, or cry on camera, especially knowing that itâll go up for millions to see. Iâve got all the more respect for the man for that stream.
Iâve watched them avidly for the past⌠4-5 years? Damn itâs been a while.
Has he actually reviewed them yet? Donât think I saw that.
Yeah, I mean nobody is perfect and faultless and for someone in his position to admit his personal fault instead of blaming it on the team is really something.
To be fair the way he titled that video (Iâve been thinking of retiring.) was pretty fair and candid I thought. It was just him being open and honest about his personal doubts / uncertainties.
He hasnât, and tends not to mess with audio too much.
I saw that he has a review pair though, he showed them off on one of his stories
I get that, but I just find those videos a bit meaningless. Like we have problems in our lives, but I also suppose its different as a you-tuber.
He may have, but probably hasnât released a review yet
Linus video is out. He likes them.
Not surprised but me and Linusâs taste in audio gear arenât similar
And the $319 tier is gone. Only $349 and $379⌠but at least youâll get them fasterâŚ
Out of curiosity what was the event like? I thought about going since Iâm in the Bay Area but I decided not to.
It was coolâthey have a nice space.
After checking in at the door (they used Eventbrite tickets to keep the audience to a manageable size), we were directed upstairs to a lounge-y area with several sofas and a couple listening rooms with desktop setups. They started with a brief announcement and video, then turned people loose to experience Panda however they liked.
The sofa I staked out had a Panda paired with a tablet running Tidal. We were also free to pair to our own devices or whatever. I brought an SP1000+Amp and used that to listen to the Pandas in wired mode as well as to compare a couple of my own headphones. Itâs cool to see Head-Fi measurements pretty much confirm what I was hearingâwired and wireless sound really are pretty much indistinguishable.
I believe there were some other Drop staples on hands (like 6xx), but since I already have a bunch of Dropâs stuff and wanted to maximize time with the Pandas I never wandered beyond the sofa I claimed. They also had light snacks and drinks (including beer and wine) on hand in an adjacent room. That was a nice touch. The whole atmosphere was very comfortable and relaxing.
THX folks were there to answer questions as was Will Bright, whoâs visible everywhere on the Drop forums. A couple camera crews came through, and one of them (who I think was Drop) interviewed me and a friend of mine who came to the event with me to get our impressions. Drop was clearly excited about the Listening Event and said the Panda launch is a very big deal for them. Theyâve been working on developing these for a couple years or more.
The whole event lasted about 3 hours, and I was there for nearly the entire time. I had plenty of time to see what I wanted to see, ask questions, etc.
I did suggest to their marketing director that it might be beneficial for them to do more Listening Day type events, or at least have some kind of program that helps to exposure more people to quality audio. Itâs something theyâd like to do, but thereâs nothing planned at the moment. If another one does come up, though, it might be worth checking out, especially if youâre in the area.
1100% backed right now. Oh well. Nice!
