šŸ”· Drop THX Panda

I emailed them and havenā€™t gotten a reply about review unit.

I got in on the first wave on Indiegogo for 319$. Iā€™m pretty much out of the headphone game, have my endgame desktop setup, but I have been craving something wireless and portable that actually sounds good. Theyā€™re offering refunds if you donā€™t like them so I figure what the hell, theyā€™re worth a shot.

Well, when you get them if you feel like filling us in, it would be appreciated lol, hopefully you enjoy them :+1:

I personally think heā€™s overreactingā€¦ review embargos are not a big deal. It does not necessarily mean the people posting their reviews are ā€œshillingā€ or being dishonest. Iā€™ve already mentioned that Iā€™m hesitant to buy into the hype of the Panda, but this is a step too far IMO.

Weā€™ll know one way or another.

If the final product is different to review units sent out, itā€™s shill valley all the way.

Would like to think Drop wonā€™t stoop that low though.

Yeah. I would think it would be in their best interest to live up to the hype as much as possibleā€¦ and for the people giving it positive reviews as wellā€¦ or their reputations will sink. Zeos has always been a mixed bag, IMO. I thought the shp 9500s were a GREAT find for the priceā€¦ but the recently raved Koss SP330 were not very good IMO. I bought them and have tried them at least 3 or 4 different times on separate occasions and they sound pretty ā€˜blehā€™ every time. KSC75s are much better. Zeos just jumps the gun on things sometimes and gets stupid passionate about stuff without REALLY thinking it throughā€¦ but his work is still very much appreciated by me.

I think BGGARā€™s video is a good reminder at least to be mindful and that itā€™s all marketing and itā€™s much smarter to wait and see, though.

Yeah I enjoy Z for the entertainment value. He did point me in the direction of the 1990s which I never would have looked into, but I tend to over analyse a product now before I buy these days. Very sceptical after the Phantom hype, granted I now like it after substantial mods but stillā€¦

I feel the same about the Panda - Iā€™ll rather pay the extra 100 odd dollars for peace of mind when it finally gets released.

I believe every influencer who made a review about them get 10% of the sales made when their link is used soā€¦ They have a decent amount of incentive

How on earth did they all release their reviews on the same day???..come on if you take on a set to review you do it in a way you see fit which my take a week or two depending on the reviewers available time for that particular item, most reviewers have multi units being reviewed at a time.
It does seem Drop orchestrated it so all the reviews came out a once?..ergo had made a previous arrangements with the reviews before they sent out the herd of Pandas?

They had them before it was officially released, and given time before. Then the embargo was released, very common

Drop is not the first to do that though

Itā€™s a review embargo. It happens a lot with movies and video games. Critics receive the product, early, well in advanced and they all have time to review the product early. In exchange, you have to agree not to release those impressions until a certain date. Itā€™s not so much that they ā€˜coordinatedā€™, but rather once the embargo lifts, most reviewers will already have their review done and will release it at day.

Not really down with corporate homogenised reviews especially when itā€™s so orchestrated but thatā€™s just me I guess.

Sure, if that is true, then I think that is definitely worth taking into account. Iā€™m not quite sure if that number is accurate, though, usually itā€™s a lot lower. Amazon affiliate links, for example, donā€™t pay anywhere near 10%, that would be insanely high. The math for how it works is generally pretty wonky and the amount you make is generally pretty lowā€¦ Like you have to drive around $100k worth of sales to make about $200ā€¦ and the way they determined how much sales you drove is pretty wonky.

Zeos is going to be A LOT more dependent on something like patron and youtube advertising revenueā€¦ which is his most stable form of income, and to maintain that, he needs to at least maintain a certain level of ā€˜trustā€™ with his community.

I personally give people the benefit of the doubt until they give me a good reason not to. I think Zeos is being honest with his review, but I just donā€™t really believe I would be as enthusiastic as him about the headphones or necessarily agree with him on how they sound.

The reviews have honestly been pretty mixed. Crinacle, for example, said the bass was a bit bloated and the drop in the upper mids made them sound a bit muffled. And the imaging was pretty bad.

I think when they finally do release, they will probably be about what is reasonable to expect. Probably very good for a closed-back wireless pair of headphones, but itā€™s not going to compete with other well regarded standard/wired options.

DMS said it was like, HD6XX levels of detail, but wireless. Definitely enough for when youā€™re in the bus lol.

I mean thatā€™s also going to end up being a similar price tbh, a 6xx and a k5 pro is cheaper still if you go off of the 400 price. The thing is too that you can scale with the 6xx, and make it preform much higher depending on your amp.

Weā€™ll see. Lol
Itā€™s funny, because it got me thinking how really personal audio REALLY is.

Like generally, with most headphones, the community tends to fall in line with the same 1 or 2 general impressionsā€¦ but I think that really comes from beingā€™ biasedā€™ by what people have said already. This is the first time Iā€™ve seen, probably ever, where a bunch of people HAVE to review a headphone completely cold without having been influenced by thatā€¦ and it shows a pretty wide variety of impressions. There are some commonalities, but the general reception is very mixed.

I mean, Crinacle is nitpicking because apparently he heard all the IEMs in the world including 10 000$ ones or something and probably a ton of headphones too lol.

Whatā€™s endgame for some can be shit for him :stuck_out_tongue:

We wonā€™t actually know unless he gives more information on his logic, but maybe heā€™s just being objective or critical.

I say this because I can easily see this product being overly hyped, more than what itā€™s worth. It is also combining multiple hyped products (wireless, THX, and ANC). I donā€™t think itā€™ll live up to the value that we can find out of 6xx, 58x, Elex, or other products that Drop has done a good job at giving bang for the buck.

Itā€™s what I was offered by them in the past I have proof if needed. Itā€™s what they were ready to offer me a fairly Insignificant individual so wonder how much they were ready offer otherā€™s
