Dt 1990 vs. hd 660s "Fun/Wow"?

In terms of bass, overall fun, and just wow factor , do you think I made the right decision with the 1990s? I’ve been torn between them and the 660s

Haven’t heard either, but judging from the 880/770 and 58x I have, the Beyer’s may be more immediately impressive based on signature and presentation. That said, they may also get fatiguing more quickly, especially if you have any treble sensitivity, due to their more aggressive presentation.

From my experience with 6XX and 1990, i guess the 1990 will definetly be more impressive. But i havent heard the the 660s…
1990 are very good!

I mean, depends? You already bought the 1990 from the sounds of it. Are you using the B pads? Balanced pads are the ones with the most holes punched in the back of the pad and tend to be a bit softer from my experience. Both headphones cater towards neutrality outside of 1990s highs/brightness, 660s have better mids in my opinion, but 1990 has the extra pads to add bass right out of the box so I think they are nicer in this case. Plus if you want a large soundstage you definitely should stick with the 1990 as the 660s are very narrow.

^ this as well. Granted you can equalize or change the pads to something from dekoni and really reign that in from my experience. If you really wanted to make the bass blow up with a 1990 though and remove a lot of that treble grab some dekoni suede or if you wanted the most bass pick up some sheepskin/leather for it these will reduce that treble and emphasize that bass by a fairly large margin.

I personally thgink the 660 is a more fun headphone but I wouldn’t really labe either as fun headphones rather I find both very good at critical listening. fun for me would be something more bass heavy and smoother on the top end than the 1990 the 660 may accomplish that but I personally need more bass. so what Im saying is it comes down to preference .

I just see the neutrality from a Sennheiser so I don’t particularly categorize that as “fun” if that makes sense. Meanwhile 1990 can easily gain a lot of bass, granted it’s extremely good at critical listening due to just how analytical it is. Neither are technically very “fun” headphones so I agree on that.

If “Fun” means for you to hear music as it was recorded by the producer.

And “WOW” means that you can hear someone throwing chewing gum paper into the paper basket in the studio.

Then both headphones are absolutely the right choice.

Why I sold my DT1990 again is that I couldn’t stand these high tone peaks and the sibilants.

The Sennheiser doesn’t have that and is therefore the headphones of my choice.

It is driven by me either with the ifi Zen DAC / Can Combo or a Feliks Audio Echo and can therefore compensate for the deficits in the bass and the stage very well.

For this reason I would call it “fun headphones”.

It is by the way, my daily driver:

I’m pretty new to everything but I was eyeing the ifi Zen, what is the Zen/Can Combo? I was thinking about pairing the Zen with the Schiit Asgard
