Dt1990 for music

So i currently own hd58x and love the energetic fun sound.I just want to upgrade next tier sound quality but im in between dt1990 and focal elex, clarity and detail is important for me,i will use them just for music. I can find dt1990 half of elexs price.I would be very happy If someone who own these two could compare vocal quality, clarity sound signature etc dt1990 has a very good price but im afraid that if it has boring for music listening compare to elex.Listen to almost every kind of music

Hmmm, do you currently have an amp and dac?

So I will say that personally for normal music listening I tend to prefer the elex, but both headphones are pretty quality. What do you like about your 58x, and what would you want to change about it?

i have atom and khadas tone board, i dont know if they drive dt1990 or elex well,i just want little bit treble, highs clarity to improve if i can im very happy with it tbh

That should do just fine then, down the line you can upgrade and get more but imo I would just stick with that for now (as I think for a significant upgrade you would be spending above 500 usd).

Ah, ok, well both headphones will fulfill those needs. The 1990 would have the most treble quantity and can get up there, it’s more neutral bright with good detail and technicalities, but it can get harsh to some if you are bothered by treble. The soundstage and imaging is very impressive and spatious, pretty enjoyable. The elex is more of a slight w shaped sound which imo is a bit more fun, and also it has great detail and technicalities as well. It’s very dynamic and also has a bit more immersive soundstage than the 1990 imo, I think it has a bit better spatial recreation for music listening. I think you might end up preferring the elex because I think it would have a more fun sound than the 1990 personally. That being said, I don’t think you would be dissatisfied with the 1990 either, it’s still pretty great, my only concern would be the more elevated treble and potential harshness (also wouldn’t be as warm as the 58x)

Yeah im chasing the fun sound actually. If 1990 doesn’t have it more than elex i will prefer the elex then

The 1990 is still pretty fun, just not as fun as the elex imo. It will also be less forgiving on harsher recordings than the elex from my experience. Something you might enjoy might be a hifiman sundara if you wanted to give that a try

My next step might be sundara but i think i want to get closer to my endgame under 1000$

Gotcha, just make sure you have what you are looking for cemented before you take too big of a jump, knowing what you want is very valuable when you are entering the higher ranges

Tbh im new to audiophile headphones and i just don’t think i know much about this hobby, maybe i should try more headphones and find my preferences. Which one do you think has greater value under 1000$ pricetag

Personally I do think it’s worthwhile trying a headphone like the sundara and seeing what you think before you jump to that higher range, I would say the sundara has better bang for buck than the 1990 and elex, once you get up in the higher ranges, bang for buck really starts to disappear imo, trying out things and getting experience is very valuable, you can eventually find out what you are really after and where you really want to go.

There are lots of great headphones in the 300 ish range that would most likely be worth a look, you just have to find your priorities in what you are looking for
