Dual PC + USB 3.0 hub switcher between Vanatoo T0 and MOTU M2/M4 + Headphone Amp + DT990 250 Ohm

Hi guys,

I apologize in advance if this is asking too much. I’ve drawn a schematic/flowchart for clarity.
I went with the USB hub switcher since I prefer Vanatoo’s onboard DAC. Going optical/Coax is also an option but I find it more complicated for my minimal setup, unless you can suggest a better idea. I will be switching line outs between the MOTU and Vanatoo T0 in Windows or MacOS.

  1. Will this setup work? The usb hub and headphone amp are my primary concerns.
Purpose: Personal music studio and/or work + tidal streaming
Source: Dual PC (PC and Macbook)
USB HUB switch: IOGEAR USB C switcher/hub
Speaker out: Vanatoo T0 + onboard DAC
    Headphone out: MOTU M2/M4 DAC + ??? headphone amp + Beyerdynamic DT990 250 Ohm

  2. How much better will it be for a Dt990 250ohm to be connected to an external headphone amp vs. MOTU M2/M4’s onboard headphone amp? Perhaps later on I will expand my headphone lineup.

you can get fairly better results for not much money then the motu built in amp. that being said, if it meets your needs and you have no issues with it, why spend money right?

your setup should work fine going by the diagram.

Awesome! Curious to know how I’d be able to get better results than what I currently have planned? I was thinking of getting a Topping A50s or JDS EL AMP 2 to pair with the MOTU.

But…I’m also open to getting a 2 in 1 dac amp combo instead and a separate audio interface for instrument inputs only. Basically separate the speaker/headphone from the instruments.

a topping or jds stack would be better for your headphone listening than the moto. you could also get the element II for all in one. depends on how much you really want to spend. 250ohm beyers will be easy to drive for both amps your looking at. i would recommend a better dac than the moto if you are thinking about spending 250+$ on an amp.
